First you need to connect to your AWS instance. Go to awsacademy.instructure.com and login to your account. From there you need to launch the AWS Academy Learner lab and wait until the AWS button goes from red to green. Once it has turned green click on the AWS button and it will launch you into the instances. Next you want to click on EC2, after that click on the tab that says running instances, and then right click on one of the instances and click connect. Choose the RDP client option in the list of options to connect and click the get password button. It will then give you the option to browse for the password you saved when you created the instances. Click on that file and then click decrypt password. This gives you the password you need to connect to the remote desktop file, which will be the next button you click. Once you have clicked the download remote desktop file, it will produce an enter password screen, which you will just copy and paste the password you just decrypted into that spot. From there you will be able to log into the instance and complete the lab instructions. Go start and type in server manager, click the app, and the server manager will open. Once in the manager navigate to the top right corner of the screen and click manage, and then add roles and features. Follow the steps from your lab instructions after that. Screenshot of being inside of the server in AWS and clicking into the add roles and feature’s part.

When completing this lab, you may run into issues where when it says it is rebooting it doesn’t actually reboot. I tried with two of the made instances that we did back in module 1 and even with following the directions explicitly, had zero luck being able to get into the domain that was created once it was installed and said it was going to shutdown and reboot. I tried logging back into the remote desktop with the new credentials and was unsuccessful. So, I rebooted using the original decrypted password to get back into the instances and was met with a screen that said my password was expired and I had to put in a new password. If you get this screen you will be unable to get past it because it doesn’t accept the password that you created for the new domain. I tried several times putting in the password I created and was met with an incorrect credential’s response. I then created a brand-new third instance and completed all the lab steps again and this time when it rebooted and brought me back
to the EC2 RDP login screen, I went back to my instances running page, right clicked the instance that I had newly created, and clicked connect. Went through the RDP process of generating a password and logged back into the instance through the remote desktop button. This time it logged me into the instance no issues and I went into the command prompt and typed whoami to confirm if this was the new domain I had just created.

For this lab instruction my enable recycle bin was grayed out so I was unable to complete that task, but I did refresh the page using the refresh button at the top right. Screenshot of deleting user John Lavigne and the result.
This lab says you need to highlight domain1(local) and then click within the Deleted Objects in that pane.
I have no option to do this on my screen and was unable to restore John Lavigne from being deleted. I put a screenshot showing that there isn’t an option to do that in my Active Directory Admin Center.
