In this course, I learned the meaning of digital evidence, which is hard copy or digital files found to help prove a case in court. From my research, there are two types of digital evidence. They are data and metadata. Data is going to be the hard copy things such as documents whereas metadata is a digital footprint and can help identify key information that can help solve a case. It's data about data. It's these details that can consist of location, time, date, etc. even if it's been deleted. You can also consider any cloud information from Dropbox, Google, and other cloud services which is also known as cloud computing. These categories are "Software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS)." "In April 2006, the U.S. Supreme Court ordered that the FRCP be amended to address e-discovery". These amendments require companies to protect data that might be subject to discovery in anticipated litigation . The importance of maintaining records and following these procedures is key to winning cases and making sure that we represent them. The ability to access your evidence and how it's stored. If the evidence was illegally obtained it will be removed and it could destroy your case. For example, if you have hard drives, electronic devices, or data in files we would have to make sure that none of these files get corrupted, altered, or deleted. This type of information would be wanted by the opposite party in which you are facing. And even though backup files may be made available there will be little to no organization which in turn can cause delays in the case. If any parties decide to purge or destroy any relevant evidence they can get In trouble Digital evidence and how it's stored is extremely important because it can help a case or break a case if destruction were to happen. For example, I like how you brought up natural disasters as those are something that we cannot help if things are damaged because of the circumstances but having multiple ways of storing and protecting information is imperative. I also agree that you should go through the files and assess what is important and what is not as taking up space is something we don't need. Having duplicate documents or documents that have been changed or altered multiple times can be confusing. “Let everything be done in a fitting and proper manner that is organized, well-planned, respectful, well- mannered, and polite. 1 Corinthians 14:40
