What Makes an Information Systems Program Successful?
Introduction
In order for a project systems manager and team to successfully create and implement
an effective information systems program, they must be equipped with the knowledge of
the criteria that needs to be met for the program to be considered successful and the
process to get the job done. This advisory report will serve as a resource to managers
of information system projects to aid in the successful implementation of information
system projects. This report will provide an overview of the overall background
concerning why most information system projects are regarded as unsuccessful. Past
experiences are sometimes the best learning tools. Having knowledge about why most
information systems projects have failed in the past can be both a learning example and
a warning as to what information systems teams and managers should avoid during
their journey of creating and implementing a new system. In addition to the background
of difficulties in information system project history, this report will also provide
recommendations that project managers and their teams can adhere to with the
purpose of creating successful information system projects. Increased knowledge and
awareness on both the reasons for unsuccessful projects and recommendations for
success are critical to the success of future information projects.

Conclusion
This reports primary focus was to both bring a spotlight to the background of regarding
the reasons for failures of information systems projects and provide recommendations
for project managers and teams to experience success with future projects. Managers
and their teams are urged to learn from the background information and past
experiences that have led to the failure of other projects. The background information
was presented in hopes of preventing information systems teams from repeated failed
mistakes. In addition to the background information, recommendations were also
addressed in this report. The recommendations specified within this report can be a
phenomenal use when working on an information systems project. All managers and
their teams are advised to practice them during the creation and implementation of their
projects to ensure success. Information systems project management can be a very
complex field of work; however, if equipped with the proper knowledge and skillset,
success is very attainable.
