If you are writing a letter to your member of Congress on the use of drones, what
position would you take?
I believe it is in the U.S.’s best interest to use drones in both military and civilian
settings. Long gone are the days where wars are fought on a front line by men of
honor. The people engaging in direct warfare with our troops include men and
women, all social classes, and from the most elder to tiny children. Tribal and
gorilla warfare tactics have required Americans to shift how we defend and protect
our concepts of freedom against terrorism and tyranny.
If you were in favor of drones, are there situations in which we shouldn't use
them?
I don't think there is a situation where drones should not be used but there is a need
for protocols for specific situations, similar to the current rules of engagement. As
an example for surveillance of uninhabited areas use one man team. For
monitoring inhabited villages or cities use two person teams. For actual warfare
engagement with drone, have a drone tactical team including two officers and one
to three enlisted where a majority have to approve the action to be taken.
While
this seems cumbersome with synchronized controls this is possible.
