1. Copy the following table into your own Word document, then, using the information given in the background section, fill in the weights for each of the criteria. Give the criterion with the most importance a weight of 10, then go down from there. (Once you’ve done this, also enter the weights into the Excel document that you’ll use to complete the balanced scorecard analysis.) 2. In Excel, change the values for Lodging Cost and Ideal July Temps such that the one with the highest value is the best and the one with the lowest the worst (based on the family’s preferences). Hint: to do this, subtract the value for each resort from the highest value from any resort. For instance, if the highest value is 100 and the value for Impish Place is 63, subtract 63 from 100 and enter this as the value for that criterion. Once you’ve done this, include the updated Excel table into your Word document (you may need to use a screenshot instead of copying and pasting). 3. Perform z- transformation normalization for each data point. To do this, start by finding the mean and standard deviation for each criterion (and enter these in the appropriate columns in the spreadsheet). Then, use the values for the criterion shown for each resort to calculate the normalized value ( hint: check the text book for how to do this).
Once you’ve done this, include the updated Excel table into your Word document (you may need to use a screenshot instead of copying and pasting). 4. Use these normalized values and the weights given for each criterion to calculate the balanced scorecard score for each of the theme parks and enter these on the row labeled TOTAL SCORE. Once you’ve done this, include the updated Excel table into your Word document . 5. Based on your calculations … a. Which of the theme parks would you recommend Dale choose for the family reunion? What is its total balanced scorecard score? Markarth Park, its total score is 22.7. b. Which of the theme parks would you least recommend Dale choose for the reunion? What is its total balanced scorecard score? Shark City USA, its total score is -20.5 c. According to your weights, how many times more important is Lodging Cost as compared to Pet-Friendliness Score? It would be 5x more important
d. If you had not performed normalization, how would that have affected the results of the analysis (assuming the weights you used remained the same)? The lodging cost would have outweighed other important aspects. Percentages would have also been somewhat disregarded.
