According to Kelling and Moore (1988), the emerging generation emphasizes community problem-solving. The criminal justice system of the past has largely been based on a reactive system, in contrast to today's proactive system. A major component of criminology today is the use of science and data. To help solve and predict crimes, criminology has evolved to use research and education. As a result of forensic science, as well as the collection of data, we can solve crimes today. Communication in the 1960s was limited; today, people and databases can be contacted in minutes rather than days or weeks. In the coming years, as technology continues to advance, criminology will continue to change and advance. This will lead to even more efficient and effective ways of solving and predicting crimes.
