Introduction The company A&D High Tech wants to transition into the online marketplace. They already have a strong business but want to improve it. A & D began expanding to be completed by the holiday season to maximize their profits. Background I. Project Overview Purpose of Project Plan: The purpose of the project for A&D High Tech is to have a successful launch of their online marketplace before the holiday season of 2003. The plan is a contract by project manager Chris Johnson, the CEO Ted Walter, the CIO Matt Webb, and other stakeholders. Background Information: Since 1988 the company has been selling computer products, accessories, and services to its customers mostly through physical stores and phone orders. Previous initiative that made this company successful were the “made-to-order” products. After using pen and paper for years they finally switched to a software-based approach reducing many errors and lowering customer callbacks. The need for this project is to continue to stay competitive with other companies and continue to have an increase in revenue. Project Approach: Seeing the problem and knowing something must be done, A&D decided to venture out from just phone and physical store sales, where they have utilized their customer service approach to their success and take the leap into the online marketplace. The CEO, Ted Walter, along with Jeff White, the sales VP, decided to implement this process. They decided they would need a custom developed program vs. an already built one. They felt this would allow them to tailor it to the companies’ exact needs. Custom software does cost more upfront, but the benefits outweighed the cost and risks.

This short timeline will require some aspects to be completed at the same time to ensure there are no delays. C. Dependencies A dependency column has been added to the excel sheet “QSO_Project1_combined_Chitwood”, sheet WBS_Dict III. Resources A. Alignment See attached excel file “QSO_Project1_combined_Chitwood”, sheet WBS_Resource_Assignments B. Evaluation IV. Risk Impact of Time Estimates on Project Schedule: The estimated timelines should help keep the project on track to meet the holiday deadline. By having an estimate we can log actual times and see how the project would need to be adjusted to accommodate. Resources Overview: The project manager would assign tasks to the applicable roles. He also needs to manage the other resources, like computers and servers and their limitations. Resource Evaluation: Evaluating the project resources and outlines I feel there is sufficient time and resources to complete the task before the deadline. There are a few positions that still need to be named, so that could cause a delay if not chosen sooner than later, but other than that, this project feels well laid out and with the right discipline the team could complete this project by the holiday deadline.
