DHS Progress Changes of DHS The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established in 2001 and has since played an essential role in protecting the United States of America. Security on all fronts—land, sea, air, and cyber —has been improved thanks to the work of the Department of Homeland Security. DHS has long been involved in various duties, including border patrol, blocking those deemed a security danger from boarding flights heading for the United States, and the seizure of loaded firearms at airports. The DHS has always prioritized adequate and efficient risk-based responses to national security concerns to guarantee efficient performance. The Department of Homeland Security is better equipped to track illegal activity and bring perpetrators to justice (Wilson et al., 2009). Since its inception, the Department of Homeland Security has undergone several transformations, the results of which may be seen today. By establishing the Department of Homeland Security Unity of Effort Initiative in 2014, former President Obama maintained the department’s strength. Since then, DHS has prioritized strategic planning, sound acquisitions, and rigorous border and extraterritorial security (Kudrick et al., 2019). The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has also benefited from a clear mission statement that has guided its efforts. Increased performance and impressive growth have been documented by the Department of Homeland Security in the areas of counterterrorism, public awareness and vigilance, and border and immigration security (Johnson, 2017). The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expanded its technological footprint by implementing new tools to improve cybersecurity, aviation security, and emergency response coordination across the country (Wilson et al., 2009). Since its inception, the Department of Homeland Security has expanded and become a more efficient and influential institution. Operational and Support Components of the Department of Homeland Security

There are various different operational and support departments within the Department of Homeland Security. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has been crucial to the success of the Department of Homeland Security. As Wilson et al. (2009) mentioned, FEMA has always played an important role within the DHS. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is a federal agency that has played a significant role in addressing national security issues and natural catastrophes. The Federal Emergency Management Agency's primary goal is to ensure all U.S. citizens' security. The excellent protection it provides against a variety of community threats has also contributed to the nation's development, progress, and continued existence (Kudrick, et al., 2019). FEMA has placed an emphasis on efficient operation and eventual success through coordinating with the DHS. Both organizations have made it their mission to work together to coordinate and avoid the emergence of various risks throughout the nation and guarantee efficient final results (Krause, 2009). Therefore, FEMA is still the DHS's most useful and helpful department. Characteristics of Homeland Security That Need to Be Addressed Numerous aspects of the DHS need to be addressed in the near future to guarantee efficient performance and the effectiveness of its operations. These characteristics include measures to safeguard people from harm before, during, and after catastrophes (Martinez, 2023). The United States should aid the DHS in educating the public on how to react to terrorist attacks and natural catastrophes. The Department of Homeland Security's top priorities are (a) educating the public about potential dangers in their area and (b) ensuring that any measures put in place really work. Martinez (2023) argues that raising public awareness and educating the populace is crucial in resolving national security concerns. The United States should also work on improving its emergency response during natural catastrophes and terrorist strikes. The Department of Homeland Security must prioritize community response to assaults and other security concerns. When dealing with criminal situations, an effective reaction and strategy to the assaults are crucial. Additionally, the United States government should prioritize protection as one of

the crucial aspects of the Department of Homeland Security. This would aid in securing the public's safety from a variety of threats. Cyber Terrorism and Future Attacks in The United States The United States is no longer alone in its worry about cyber terrorism. Cyberterrorism has impacted many systems due to the increased frequency with which unanticipated assaults are made on commercial and government networks (Johnson, 2017). Increased threats and assaults, however, have prompted the United States to implement robust cyber security strategies under the Department of Homeland Security. The private sector is always susceptible to cyberterrorism due to the lack of security measures in place. Therefore, cyber security is crucial to preventing these kinds of assaults. The nation has recently implemented efficient steps to limit the frequency and severity of cyber assaults on its systems and to provide sufficient protection for the private sector (Johnson, 2017). However, efforts are being made to create reliable systems immune to such assaults and guarantee continued operation.
