1-4 Journal: Introduction to Power BI and Reporting
This week I have learned that Power BI has five major facets: data sourcing, data
analysis, situational awareness, risk assessment, and decision support. These major facets are
designed to help businesses make better decisions by providing businesses with data and insights
that are needed. Microsoft Power BI is a data visualization platform used primarily for business
intelligence purposes. Designed to be used by business professionals with varying levels of data
knowledge, Power BI’s dashboard is capable of reporting and visualizing data in a wide range of
different styles, including graphs, maps, charts, scatter plots, and more [ CITATION Cou23 \l
1033 ]. Power BI is an easy format that allows users to customize data information without
extensive knowledge or training of data analytics or programming. After watching the
introduction videos and reading the chapter I learned Power BI is simple to understand and can
review all types of data. In the videos, an example of a bike store utilizing a dashboard to show
the number of customers the business had, the location of the customers, and could export a list
of names if requested. In the video demo, the video mentioned that Power BI has a natural
language search engine that is built in the program to help search for specific information.
This new knowledge of Power BI can be used in any business environment. Power BI can
be utilized to target specific customers, which will allow the business to cater to the specific
customers or offer special incentives to these customers for new business. Power BI is beneficial
to businesses by being able to track the location of sales. It can also use zip codes to obtain more
specific data. Power BI can provide businesses with an understanding of the business at surface
level and an in-depth knowledge of the business data.
