One of the most common questions the general public asks about intimate partner violence (ipv) is "Why does she stay?" 1. Respond to the following: 1. Explain the possible issues affecting the help-seeking behavior of Hedda Nussbaum, including issues in the victim and offender response system that inhibited appropriate intervention This situation with Lisa being murdered was tragic. I believe since Lisa was not Hedda’s or Joel’s biological child they did not treat her with love. Even though Hedda was not Lisa’s biological mother she was supposed to be her protector. However, she did not protect her even while she was going through some of the same and that was an issue. I believe the reason why Hedda did not responded so late (12 hours later) is because she was scared for her life or was threatened by Joel until he came up with a plan. 2. Please support your response with resources (including in-text citations). The reason why I said Hedda may have been scared for her life and that’s the reason why she didn’t contact the police is because when the police arrived to their home Hedda was responding slow and confused. Also, Hedda had “two black eyes, a split lip, and a nose that no longer had a bridge” [ CITATION Lis87 \l 1033 ] . This shows that Hedda was being abused as well and could have been afraid of the suspect (her husband Joel). Studies show that there are numerous reasons why people take awhile to respond for help. Teo reasons are “the fear that contacting law enforcement may actually make her situation more dangerous and or they may not have access to a phone” [ CITATION Ann20 \l 1033 ] because the suspect took it.
