Problem
When opening a brick and mortar store you always strive to get customers.
Currently
our business is struggling with keeping control of our customer information and how we
manage our business. Our company needs to find a way to update our online process in order
to fix problems with maintaining inventory, shipping process, managing customer contact and
managing employee. We have a small business with a limited number of employees and we
want to figure out how to update our business model by figuring out how to expand our
business through technological expansion.
New Technologies
There are many technological processes that we can examine but today we are going to
first look at
wireless, mobile computing, and mobile commerce
. First understanding how
wireless works is important because it is a transfer of data through numerous devices
including, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
These are all devices that have changed the way
we shop. Having a wireless connection allows you to be just about anywhere and being able to
make a purchase of anything. With wireless access it gives us the ability to do mobile
computing. Mobile computing is a
set of IT technologies, products, services and operational
strategies and procedures that enable end users to access computation, information and related
resources and capabilities while mobile (Letevich, 2022)
.
I think the establishment of services
like online purchasing including through our app would be great for the growth of our
company. With that we would be establishing mobile commerce where we can sell our
products through not just a application but through various alternate sites. The second
technology we need to look at is Social Computing. Social Computing
studies how people
interact with computers and computational systems (Socialization on the Verge of Web 3.0:
Social Computing, 2022). Most people associate social computing with just interaction on social
media but it has other aspects that include blogs, wikis, instant messaging, multi-gaming and
open source development. Which are all platforms that will put out data to further the spread of
our business that ultimately could lead to new customers.
Business Requirement
The purpose of this project is for to integrate new and improved technology to our business
and establish a more online presence. By implementing wireless, mobile computing, mobile
commerce and social computing this will change our presents and put us in the same categories
as our competitor. Our mobile commerce will help establish online shopping and give us more
structure when it comes to shipping our material and managing our inventory. I think that we do
need to hire a IT specialist that will get us started with fixing our website and controlling our
social media outlets. The implementation of these will also give us the opportunity to interact
with our customers and tell them what we have to offer and make it more convenient to get our
products.
Competitors And Technology
Technology One Wireless, Mobile Computing, Mobile Commerce
When you look at the company LYST and how they use mobile commerce they have a website
that gives you accurate links including the ability to use their app to order high end products
which is the direction that we want to go. The company is based overseas and give you several
sources that you can get products for the most reasonable price. I think we can do this by getting

into business with e-commerce sites like Amazon, and Walmart to source all our material
expanding our business.
Technology Two Social Computing
Macys is a company that has a significant presence in social media. They have multiple accounts
on different platforms where they put advertisements that include deals and special offers that
give you direct access to their website.
The company also uses their social media to tabulate data
including likes, comments and shares to determine what type of ads and deals they want to put
out. While Macys is a large company, they still rely on social media to get those customers that
don’t want to come directly into the store to get a deal.
From what I learned about both companies I think we will do both things by first adding a
app that can be used to order material along with establishing relationships with other e-
commerce sites that will get our product sold all over the world. I also think with creating the
app along with establishing ourselves on social media we can grow our business from a small
brick and mortor to a powerhouse in sale.
