Deuteronomy 10: 14 says that the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it belongs to the Lord our
God. We are stewards of his work, but he is the owner of everything (ESV). The 10 commandments were
given to us as principles to live by- not stealing, love your neighbor as yourself, do not covet, ect.
Technology is increasingly present in our lives, and an essential part of how we live. Databases are
subject to security risks due to their vulnerability and sensitive information. Databases have several
layers of protection and access to end users such as “admin, server Admin, security officer, developers,
and employees” (Teimoor, 2021).
Managing a database is more than entering and analyzing data, it is
about keeping information secure and free of risk. Security measures must consider both internal and
external attacks by ensuring confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, authorization, and
auditing (Barbulescu, Enache-Ducoffe, & Togan, 2023). As Christians, it is important to take care of the
things that have been handed to us, which might include safeguarding data and sensitive organizational
information that is kept in databases. Companies participate in data governance in order to mitigate risks
of security breaches. Data governance is a system of checks and balances that develop rules and
regulations regarding data integrity (Manino, 2019).
Since God is the only source of existence, anything
created apart from God is proof of his holy activity, and therefore belongs to him. The things that have
been given to us are gifts that help us discover God’s presence (Nawrot, 2023). We can find God through
our faith and integrity as we protect data and information.
