Unit 4 Discussion 1
The topic for this week’s discussion pertains to the three forms of validity, which include
construct, content, and criterion. All these forms of validity perform an act of measurement, each
with its own set of parameters. Construct validity is a method of determining how accurately the
measurement conducts the evaluation of the intended test (Cohen et al., 2022). The construct
validity is the simplest measurement of validity, only testing for intended purposes of precision.
The judgement about the conclusions drawn from the test but does not necessarily relate the final
gathered data to other constructs of the same method applied to different individuals. The types
of tests which might include a construct validity measurement are satisfaction scores, reading
abilities, or evidence-based tests.
Content validity is a method of validity which assesses the information that is intended to be
measured (Cohen et al., 2022). This is a precise test in which the constructs not being measured
are omitted, and the constructs being measured are within the parameters of a blueprint. The type
of information, the organization of the test, the area of coverage by the content, are all specified
and covered within the subject area. The types of tests which might include a content validity
measurement are employment, achievement, and job seeking tests.
Criterion validity measures the test correlation with a formerly recognized measurement for
comparison (Cohen et al., 2022). A valid judgement from the testing measurements views how
adequately the test score is used to individual’s outcome. There must be two statistical
components for this type of validity test, which include the validity coefficient and the
expectancy data. There are two subcategories within the criterion validity tests, which include
predictive and concurrent. The types of tests which might include a criterion validity
measurement are intelligence and psychoanalytical tests.
