Week 6: Investigation Notes
We are now entering the sixth week of the Walter Emerson
Investigation. Last week, we learned that Ms. Tina Oodle was stopped
and arrested for an unrelated offense. We also learned that she had a
laptop computer and some suspicious items on her person. The search
warrant that you authored at the conclusion of last week for the search
of the laptop owned by Ms. Tina Oodle has been approved by a judge.
To assist you in this investigation a technician with your unit has
removed the hard drive from this laptop and imaged the drive. The
technician verified that the image was created successfully and
reassembled the laptop. This laptop was returned to the police
department evidence room and stored with the backpack.
The technician has preprocessed the forensic image that was created
in order to save you time and help out with your examination and it
was uploaded the forensic image to the unit data storage server. An
Autopsy case and an AXIOM case have been created. All materials can
be downloaded from the Investigation Materials.
You will have the entire week to complete a detailed forensic analysis
examination report.
Week 6: Investigation Materials
The Week 6 Investigative Materials can be located at V:\CFDI-

In order to make all investigative materials available, you must
fully extract the contents of the entire archive to your ForensicVDI
desktop.
You will need to review all of the provided investigative materials.
This includes using both AXIOM and Autopsy.
Week 6: Investigation Deliverable
In this assignment, you have been tasked with conducted a detailed
forensic analysis of the computer owned by the suspect Ms. Tina
Oodle. You are free to use any forensic tool you are comfortable and
capable of using. For reference, a detailed walkthrough of using the
tools Autopsy and AXIOM are available to you from Week 3. Use the
experience you gained from working on the forensic exam of the image
from Mr. Walter Emerson. Take your time, move slowly and be detailed.
The necessary steps to complete this imaging have already been
completed on your behalf. You will need to conduct this analysis and
work to address the following scope:
A complete search of all data for the following information:
Communication content between Ms. Tina Oodle and any persons
who may be the victim of financial exploitation. Highlight any key
communication moments that you are able to locate
Any information relating to the crime(s) of financial fraud
Evidence of ownership identifying Ms. Tina Oodle as the owner or
user of this device
Develop a clear timeline structure for the data you located during
this examination that is relevant to the criminal investigation
underway
Important:
This forensic examination report is not a continuation of the
forensic report during Week 3 & 4. This report should be treated as a
separate piece of evidence. During Week 7 you will work to put all of the
pieces together.
Your authority to search is the search warrant you authored which was
approved by a judge at the conclusion of Week 5.
This forensic analysis report will be due on Sunday at 11:59 PM (your
local time).
