Running head: SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 1 Final Thoughts on New Office in Fayetteville, NC Kerry J. Colby Southern New Hampshire University James Crivello 4/15/2023
SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 2 New Office Network The first thing would be a solid, fast, reliable network that will keep up with the ever- growing company, as well as the ISP needed. I would have a modem placed in the new space to allow for easy access to internet and shared drives. Adding a firewall to this modem to allow for security and protection of any unwanted visitors. Network ports will be added for easy connection to the network within the offices. These would be able to be plugged in via ethernet cable if needed. Router, switch, and server would be in a near networking closet. I would recommend an unmanaged switch as it will be ready to go out of the box. having patch panels or network ports added to the switch allows for network connection to the company’s websites and databases. Having a couple desktops for office employees as well as a central printer installed. For employees to communicate with other offices, we would want to make sure the IP ranges are similar ranges. With the company having a small portion of 50 employees, I would use a class C IP address range of 192-223. This will aide in communicating with other offices. Cisco Webex would allow for conference calls. It is a meeting tool that will be able to communicate with any office, in any state. The data flow would be full duplex and would allow communications or data to be transmitted in both directions at the same time. The best LAN topology for this building/company would be the star topology. It would be inexpensive way to go, easy set up, and works well with the amount of flow of data going through it. All the devices would be connected to one central device that would allow connection to the network. Once the system is set up and functional, we will need to add RDP and VPN services. This will allow our folks in Albany and Springfield to remotely/securely connect to the network, wherever they are. We also want to add a network drive for all locations to use and save data for access companywide. The
SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 3 servers will house all printer servers as this will allow any remote user, with installed driver, the ability to print remotely. For the 50 employees and every workload added to it, 1 Gbps or 1,000 Mbps. Having these fast speeds will help keep up with the workloads without any slowdown. Verizon has the best overall network and capabilities for what the new office is in need of. Verizon has symmetric fiber speeds which aides in upload and download speeds. It also has a better customer service team with a few better reviews than the competition. Verizon also comes with a Network Security Suite, for heightened security. Network configuration would consist of having a room that houses the network and internet equipment called the network closet. In this room will be a rack that houses all hardware to allow the internet to be brought into the building or floor. The switch will be installed on the rack, next will be the server and patch panel that is installed on the rack as well. Firewall will be installed on the patch panel. The modem for Verizon internet will be installed into the firewall. We can also install a UPS for back-up power supply needs. Wires will be run from the switch and rack to every cubicle through the walls and ceiling to every computer or piece of hardware for hardline connections to the network. We can install Wireless access points in each room or specific spots to allow for wireless connections to the network. All desks will have a desktop or laptop. Those employees that can work out of the office, do not need to take their computer with them. The laptops will normally be hooked up using a hardline connection or wireless as needed. All computers should include Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, and Adobe. Office for word docs, Outlook for email, and Adobe for any PDF conversions or document downloading for converting files to be edited or read. IT will also have anti-virus software which

All the servers will be configured as a Domain Controller which will house all the programs the company uses. The office will include printers in the areas that are needed. These printers can be tied into the network wirelessly. This can be for local print jobs as well as added file share for access to company info and print jobs. These file share servers will allow for other offices to connect to our printer and use it to send a job to us directly. Configuring a VPN tunnel and static IP address will allow for connection to any Domain Controller. There will be physical office phones that can be connected as VoIP phones through Verizon. They offer this, and the speeds should allow for connections to not be disrupted or slowed as these are added. Since WebEx or Microsoft Teams is built into the computers, they can use the phone or computer for any video meetings or calls throughout the day. Other factors to consider is the potential errors and risks the company can face. Some of these include slow internet speed, DNS issues and Cyber-attacks, internet outrages, and VPN connection issues. Many issues are caused by misconfigurations. Thus, troubleshooting too is something that must consider when there are potential errors with the network system. Isolating the problem would be the first thing to do. Find out where the issues are taking place and find an adequate solution as needed. When you have slow internet speeds, we must identify if it is mother nature related or hardware/software problems. There are times it can be ISP or misconfiguration that cause the slowing. Implementing a fix should be immediate and connections should be reinstated quickly to allow for workloads to be completed. For cyber- attacks, basic cyber-security training and implementation should take place. This includes limiting personal information and spotting of phishing emails.
SHORTENED TITLE UP TO 50 CHARACTERS 5 It’s important to keep the network up to date and running and this includes application and service monitoring, packet analyzing, on/off network monitoring and intrusion detector. Packet analyzer will detect the any potential risk moving in and out of the network, application and services monitoring will let the network administrator know if anything goes wrong so that the network can be fixed, and solutions be implemented before everything goes down. The Intrusion detection can be monitored with the software such as the Manage Engine OpManager Plus. It is a cloud monitoring solution that tracks and manages your dynamic hybrid, and multi- cloud environments along with all other IT infrastructure components, including networks and servers, storage, network bandwidth, configuration and compliance, IP addresses and switch port, and firewall. The network monitoring tools are designed to monitor the information being transferred from cloud and remote devices from employees to ensure the company is safe from potential breaches of data.
