Module 5 Case Study Jane Smith is in charge of the network security at ABC company. She has a very limited budget and is only able to do a few things to protect the networks and data for the company. She currently has a router based firewall installed and a commercial virus scanner on every device on the network. There are a few other ways that Jane can maintain security through her networks. Jane may want to consider installing antivirus software on all of the network devices within the company. This will prevent anyone from installing malicious software on the systems. Having the software also deletes the malicious software from the system. Another thing Jane may want to consider doing is having employees use multi factor authentication (MFA). Using multi factor authentication adds an extra layer of security within the network. This makes it harder for hackers to log into the network and gain access to customers or employees personal data, card information or any other sensitive details. Jane currently has a router based firewall which provides basic network security operations on all of the devices. Jane may want to consider using a separate firewall on each device, as a normal firewall is designed to handle more than a router based firewall. A router based firewall is primarily designed to re route all traffic to the specific network rather than providing top notch network security. In addition to using a normal firewall, it also helps because they are able to provide a variety of security features such as deep packet filtering, intrusion prevention, and different VPNs. Overall Jane has implemented great security features, I do recommend that Jane switches from a router based firewall to a normal firewall due to the fact that it has better network security. I would also like to see Jane install anti virus software on all of the systems as well. She currently has virus scanners which helps with maintaining and securing the software as well. Having all of these security features in place will help prevent any cyber attacks from stealing customer or employees data.
