Running head: 1-2 SCENARIO ACTIVITY: CHOOSE A SCENARIO 1 1-2 Scenario Activity: Choose a Scenario IT 650: Principles of Database Design Southern New Hampshire University
1-2 SCENARIO ACTIVITY: CHOOSE A SCENARIO 2 1-2 Scenario Activity: Choose a scenario I selected the Westlake Research Hospital from those discussed in the textbook. The scenario has major topics that must be included in a database. Major Topics Some of the topics that are found in the scenario include 1. Drug administered 2. Interviews and Checkups for patients 3. Doctors 4. Supervisor 5. Information of patients and their visits 6. Side effects of the administered drug 7. Doctors’ notes 8. Security of the system 9. Dispensing techniques Statement of Work History The hospital decided to test a new drug for depression. Besides, 20 doctors were selected to carry out the exercise that involved 400 patients (Conger, 2014). Further, the study was to run for 18 months for it to be effective. The doctors must administer the new depression drug to half the population of the selected patients while the remaining half receives Prozac. It is only the researchers who must receive all the information that is entered into the database so that the research can be effective and meet its goals. Scope
1-2 SCENARIO ACTIVITY: CHOOSE A SCENARIO 3 The database must have features that track the patients’ activities from the initial stage until they complete the exercise. As a result, the database must have the screening and interview sections because that is an essential part of the research. Also, the database must have sections that reveal the depression conditions of the selected patients. The researchers are interested in depression status, sleeping patterns, appetite levels, and physical activities of the selected patients. Additionally, the doctors involved in the research must observe the side effects of the patent drug under study. Consequently, they will observe patient rashes, blood pressure, heartbeat, liver conditions, and kidneys to determine the effects the drug has on the selected patients. Constraints The database must meet the required standards to ensure that the research meets its goals. However, some of the constraints are clear before developing it. For instance, doctors are not allowed to see the information of other patients except their own. It is also important for the doctors to enter details of the patient into the database. For instance, the doctors must record blood pressure results, blood test findings, depressions status, and doctors’ notes into the database system. Lastly, the database must display the patients’ medical profile and doctor’s notes when a patient accesses it. Objectives The study aims to obtain information about the drugs under study. Therefore, the doctors must enter the relevant details from the study so that the researchers can obtain essential data for their study. As a result, the database must meet the following objectives: 1. Organize patient data appropriately from the start to the end. 2. Track statistics recorded in the system.

1-2 SCENARIO ACTIVITY: CHOOSE A SCENARIO 4 3. Monitor and respond to supervisor requests. 4. Keep the doctors' notes 5. Indicate the side effects of the drug. Timeline Gathering data: All stakeholders must be reached for interviews and questionnaire filling. Also, patient observation will take place at this stage. The allocated time is four weeks. Deliverables: Contact the doctors and schedule interviews with them. Record the doctors’ observations and give patients questionnaires to fill. Analyzing data: All data obtained from the first stage must be analyzed and rules for the business established. As a result, the findings obtained in this stage must be used to determine the database model that will be implemented. The allocated time for this event is two weeks. Deliverables: The process entails compiling and reviewing rules that must be administered in the entire exercise. Also, it will include attributes and entities for the database. Normalization: Develop a database that comprises of normal relationships and entities. This is allotted one week. Deliverables: Review the diagram that must be used to establish relationships. Building the database : Translate the accepted database model into the RDBMS. Also, create tables that contain types of data and how they are related. The allotted time for this section is four weeks. Deliverable: Review the data schema. Testing and security : Sample data must be entered into the system. Also, establish security rules for the project. The allotted time for the project is two weeks. Deliverables: Record the results of the tests carried out.
1-2 SCENARIO ACTIVITY: CHOOSE A SCENARIO 5 DB installation and completion: Review the recommendations and implement any changes. Also, remove the sample data and install the database on the server. Consequently, test the database installed in the production server. The allotted time is three weeks. Deliverables: Produce a functioning database that has all the requirements for the study. Documentation The project has two aspects as it evolves 1. The development of the database structure 2. How the database must be established. 3. Security of database data and information.
