Report
Out of the 10 rules listed for managing Global Innovation, in my opinion, Rule 7- Allocate resources on the basis of capability, not availability is the most important one. Cooperate companies do project onboarding with tight timelines and in general, the team capabilities are overlooked. Once the project is onboarded main focus is on the delivery within the stipulated timeframe. In order to do so, people available are generally onboarded to a project without even considering whether they are fit for the assigned role. For example, a person with extensive knowledge in .Net is hired to take up the responsibilities of a UX designer because of his availability. In this scenario, a person might invest double the required to come up with the design and might not even feel motivated to complete the task assigned. This leads to a decrease in productivity levels and even the product quality gets compromised. In certain situations, at a later stage in the project, members with the required skills are onboarded to complete the customer requirements. This again impacts the project budgeting and delivery timelines. On-time delivery of projects helps firms to build a rapport with the clients and this whole relationship might go on toss when project expectations are not met.
