Transport Layer The Transport Layer ensures that data is transferred from source to destination reliably and without errors. It provides end-to-end communication services and is chiefly concerned with data integrity and the efficient use of network resources. Protocols like TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) operate at this layer. TCP offers a connection-oriented, reliable service, taking care of aspects like data sequencing, acknowledgement, and retransmission of lost packets. UDP, on the other hand, provides a quicker but less reliable connectionless service. This layer also introduces the concept of 'ports' to distinguish different services on the same device, thereby enabling multiple applications to share the network resources concurrently.
