Unit 2 Activity: Values, Ethics, & Policy - Part 1 Value: Accuracy and Quality Select a person or an organization that places emphasis on your chosen value. What would the person or organization do on a daily basis that reflects this value? What would they not do? (1-2 sentences) Apple places a strong emphasis on accuracy and quality through their quality control measures, ensuring that their products are of the highest quality and accurate to what they promote. This includes testing their hardware, software, and making sure all their products are consistent throughout production. 1. Think about a public figure or an organization in the world or the news lately that is doing an especially good job with emphasizing your chosen value. What are they doing that emphasizes this? What was the procedure, method, or plan composed of that made them this strong in the area? What did they get right and what lesson can other individuals or organizations learn from them? (1-2 sentences) StockX is an online marketplace that specializes in sneakers and clothing, reflecting accuracy and quality through their multi-step verification process. They make sure that the products they sell are deadstock (new and never worn), products and their packages are high quality, all product accessories are included, and that the products are authentic. 2. Think about a public figure or an organization in the world or the news lately that is doing an especially poor job with emphasizing your chosen value. What are they doing incorrect or wrong? What was the (or lack of) procedure, method, or plan composed of that made them this weak in the area? What did they get wrong and how could they do better? (1-2 sentences) Wikipedia has trouble emphasizing accuracy and quality as a credible source of information because it allows users to edit information. This runs the risk of reliability and credibility concerns because users may not be properly equipped with the expertise or competence, which can be avoided if they restricted user editing. 3. Choose your good job or poor job example. Now think about the context surrounding your example in terms of policy—laws, codes of ethics, or social norms. Choose and highlight either a law, code of ethics, or social norm you think your good job/poor job example is doing well or needs to work on. (2-3 sentences) StockX is obeying the law by not selling counterfeit products with the intention of deceiving customers into purchasing an authentic product. This is considered intellectual property theft and can be punishable as a crime. Its verification process ensures that customers are receiving high quality and authentic products, and that no parties get in legal trouble.
