1. What legislation applies to compliance requirements? Regulatory compliance can be broadly defined as the adherence to laws, regulations, and guidelines created by government legislations and regulatory bodies applicable to an organization based on the industry and jurisdiction in which it operates. In a general sense, compliance means abiding by a set of rules. For your business to function legally, it needs to comply with specific industry standards, laws, regulations, and ethical conduct standards that apply to your business. 2. What is a ‘code‘, and what type of codes might apply to compliance? A code is a set of rules that defines the generally accepted conduct and practices of an individual in a specific industry . It is generated by a regulator or an organization . Although codes are not compulsory ( commonly referred for best practices ) , it can be further adopted into a law which are mandatory . Some of the codes are National Fire Protect Association 101 and Life Safety Code for fire protection 2 , various Codes of Practice - confined spaces , construction work , first aid in the workplace by Safe Work Australia , and Code of Ethics / Conduct in any establishment . 3. What is a standard? According to PMBOK 6 th Edition , Standard is a " document established by consensus and approved by a recognized body that provides , for common and repeated use , rules , guidelines or characteristics for activities or their results , aimed at achievement of the optimum degree of order in a given context . " 1 In simpler terms , while codes describes what to do , standards provides the guidelines on how to do it . 2 Some of the recognized body are Standards Australia , International Standards Organizations ( ISO ) , American Society for Testing and Materials ( ASTM ) , and American Petroleum Institute ( API ) . Example of standards are ISO 9001 ( Quality Management Systems standard ) , ISO 14001 ( Global Environmental management systems standard ) , and FSSC 22000 ( Food Safety Management systems ). 4. List ten (10) sources of information relating to compliance. When determining the compliance requirements for an organization , it is essential to acquire information from reliable sources such as : i. Data from regulatory authorities - statistics , demographic data ii . Minutes of meeting from focus groups , interviews iii. Published references - literatures , journals , manuals iv. Policies and procedures such as Standard Operating procedures v. Survey questionnaires vi. Newsletters , bulletins , information sheets , and other periodic documentation distributed by relevant regulatory authorities vii . Records of telephone conversations viii . Documents from internet ix . Written correspondence such as letters , electronic mails , fax x . Library resources and materials
5. Provide one (1) example of both primary and secondary research. Primary research implicates collecting new information while secondary research entails exploring information that already exists . An example of primary research is gathering information through surveys , interviews and / or focus groups . Secondary research includes referring to literatures including online sources . 6. List fifteen (15) different compliance requirements that could relate to your organisation or work area. Examples of compliance requirements in hospitality sector are as follows : i. Privacy ii . Anti- discrimination iii. Taxation iv. Superannuation v. Security vi. Food hygiene vii. Child protection viii . Health ix . Human Rights x. Insurance xi. Safety xii. Consumer protection xiii . Codes of practices in hospitality sector xiv . Immigration xv. Freight Forwarding
