What is the difference between a content standard and an instructional objective, and how does each relate to assessment measures? A content standard describes what students are expected to learn by the end of the school or grade completion. An instructional objective explains what students will be able to do by the end of a lesson as a result of instruction given. Content standards and instructional objectives both are used to guide teaching, learning as well as students progress and achievements at the end of
the school year. Assessment measures are a great way of checking how well students have done by fulfilling those expectations. 2. What technologies support the use of open-ended questions on tests? How? Following are the technologies that support the use of open -ended questions on tests. Word-processing software. Communication and collaboration tools. Journaling. Multimedia and web-based software. Often it is very difficult to write high-quality, forced-choice questions that truly tap into higher- order thinking skills, open-ended questions are often employed when students have to demonstrate higher levels of cognitive skill, such as the application of rules, procedures, or concepts or to demonstrate their creativity and original thoughts and ideas about the questions. 3. Which is the more flexible assessment tool – a checklist or a rubric? Explain why. Rubric is a more flexible assessment tool as Rubric can provide different levels of performance for each criteria given and while a checklist only has two options (yes or no). A rubric also provides detailed feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of the student’s assignments and helps them aim for success.. A checklist, on the other hand, is more beneficial for ensuring that the student has met all the essential requirements of the assignment, but does not measure the quality or depth of their learning.
