In what ways do prescriptive analytics impact your chosen career field? Prescriptive analytics impact in my chosen career field of the Department of Defense (DOD) is great as it transforms data into information the DOD can use to make high-quality decisions. For example, data analytics improves the strategy for decision-making in the combatant command. (Butler et al., 2021) Do you think it is currently important or do you think prescriptive analytics have yet to be widely adopted? I think prescriptive analytics is currently important but has not yet been widely adopted and most certainly will increase in the future. I conclude from the readings that prescriptive analytics can enable businesses to make the best decisions for future business operations. (Gosh, 2021) Find, summarize, and reference a mainstream news article or research article supporting your response in a minimum of 250 words. The article Data Analytics in the Combatant Command: Improving the Approach to Decision- Making by Butler et al. (2021) suggests that prescriptive analytics can provide crucial feedback to commanders outlining possible outcomes of decisions. Prescriptive analytics can further quantify the outcome of recommended actions. In detail, prescriptive analysis supports decision- making by determining a course of action. Techniques in use are rules-based methodologies, optimization, and stochastic optimization. The benefits are quantifying the outcomes of the recommended course of action. The limitation is the data is time dependent. The article is about the use of data analytics to combat improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Authors Butler et al. (2021) explain that descriptive data analytics is applied to summarize historical data in the example of combat as it answers what happens in the area of responsibility. Another used analytics is diagnostic data analytics, which focuses on understanding the factors of an event, whether it occurred or not. Predictive analytics predicts possible outcomes of decisions using the trends identified during the descriptive data analytics step. As the summary shows, prescriptive analytics is in every industry. In any field, businesses can use software for data analytics specifically tailored to individual needs. “The extraction, fusion, and synthesis of data” (Butler et al., 2021), can be applied to data analytics in any career field for whichever decision a business seeks to accomplish. Prescriptive analytics predicts and assists in the decision-making process as it looks at the possible course of action and evaluates whether a previously made decision was effective. (Butler et al., 2021) Bhagat (2020) mentions IBM Analytics in his article as one of the companies offering predictive analytics solutions. IBM offers predictive analytics solutions. These are classification models, clustering models, and time series models (What is predictive analytics?) . In the example of a supply chain, companies often use predictive analytics for managing product inventory and establishing pricing strategies. It includes assessing the cost and returns on products, which is vital to predict the long-term impact on revenue. Currently, IBM offers three solutions, and these are IBM Watson® Studio, IBM SPSS® Statistics, and IBM SPSS® Modeler (What is predictive analytics?) . IBM offers solutions used in “automotive, defense, chemical, petroleum, energy, aerospace, electronics, and other industries to uncover deeper insights into operations, inventory,
market demands, supply chain, and performance” (Bhagat, 2020). (Bhagat, 2020; What is predictive analytics? ) Reference: Bhagat, V. (2020, December 22).
