Week 6 Assignment - Project Tasks and Timeline Instructor Name: Dr. Carlos J Febry, Ph.D, PMP Course Instructor’s Name 12/5/2023
Part 1: Overview of the Project Summary of Goals and Objectives: The objective of this project is to renovate the kitchen area. The objectives are to enhance the aesthetics of the area, modernize all the appliances, and optimize the utilization of the available space in our floor design. The scope of our project encompasses the design, demolition, and installation of appliances, cabinets, plumbing, electrical systems, walls, ceilings, and flooring. There will be no physical alteration of the walls, hence this is not within the scope of the project. To deem the project successful, several acceptance criteria have been established, which include finishing the remodeling project within the designated timeframe, according to the allocated budget, and ensuring the owner's contentment. The allocated budget is USD 100,000, whereas $86,000 has been suggested. The deadline for this project is January 31st, 2024. Summary of Resources and Budget: The aggregate resources allocated for this project encompass a budget of $100,000, a set timeframe of 12 weeks, and the labor and experience of construction workers, electricians, plumbers, and other tradespeople necessary for the successful completion of the project. It is imperative to effectively oversee and employ these resources to accomplish the project within a 12-week timeframe and a budget of $100,000. Part 2: Explanation of Tasks and Timeline This section outlines the necessary steps for the project of remodeling an antiquated kitchen. The project is allocated a budget of $100,000 and must be completed within a timeframe of 12 weeks.
The project necessitates the completion of a diverse range of duties. The activities involved in this project encompass acquiring permits, demolishing walls and flooring, cleaning, insulating, installing electrical wiring and plumbing, fitting cabinetry, applying drywall, painting, laying carpet, and building a kitchen and bathroom. Every activity must be completed sequentially and with the appropriate resources to guarantee the successful accomplishment of the project's ultimate objective within the designated timeline and budget. Description of Timeline The timeline for this project has been broken down into manageable milestones. First, the permits must be obtained, which should take about one week. The demolition and cleaning of the workshop must then be completed before the other tasks can be undertaken. Depending on the size, condition, and type of materials used for furniture and cabinetry, the demolition, insulation, installation of electrical wiring and plumbing, and cabinetry could take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to complete. The drywall, painting, and carpeting could be completed in about 3 weeks, followed by two weeks to install the kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The total timeline for this project should be approximately 12 weeks. Project Tasks and Timeline Rationale: Task 1: Obtain Building Permits: To begin the project, the necessary building permits must be acquired before any construction can start. This task involves researching on the laws, regulations, d requirements to receive a building permit in the local jurisdiction. It also involves obtaining the necessary signatures and forms required to receive a building permit. Estimated timeline: 2 weeks

Task 2: Task 2: Interior Demolition: After acquiring the necessary permits, the process of demolishing the interior space can commence. This entails the elimination of any preexisting components, such as furniture, fixtures, or other random objects ( Neal, 2) . Projected duration: 7 days Task 3: Procurement of Materials: Following the completion of the demolishment phase, it is necessary to procure and purchase the materials required for the project to initiate the actual construction process. The materials encompass many construction components, including wood, drywall, flooring, countertops, as well as plumbing and electrical supplies ( Neal, 2) . Projected timeframe: 14 days Task 4: Once the supplies have been obtained, the project can enter the building phase. During this stage, the construction team will lay the walls and floors, paint the walls, install ceilings and lighting, install cabinets and countertops, and seal the doorways, windows, and other openings. This stage encompasses both top-down and bottom-up estimation techniques to ensure effective budget and timeline control ( Neal, 2) . Projected duration: 4 weeks Task 5: Finalizing: Once the construction phase has been finished, the last refinements can be made. This encompasses the tasks of installing fixtures, outfitting the area, and ensuring the appropriate functionality of all electrical and plumbing systems ( Neal, 2) . Projected timeframe: 14 days. Explanation of Method(s) Used to Determine Dates The timeline was determined based on the project’s budget and the resources available. After considering the amount of money allocated and the number of materials, labor, and time necessary to complete the project, the tasks were sequenced and the resultant timeline was determined. This timeline also considers the project’s
constraints, such as the cost, the timeframe, and any risks or potential complications that could arise during the project. To create the timeline, activities were identified and organized into a logical sequence and resources were accounted for. Based on the resources available, it was determined that the project should be completed in eight weeks(Larson, 1).. Part 3: Risk Factors and Mitigation Potential Risks and Mitigation The project's risk factors, considering the allocated budget and timetable, have been identified and enumerated below, along with suggested strategies for minimizing their impact. 1. Potential for budget overrun: Considering the specified timeline, there is a possibility that the project budget of $100,000 might be surpassed if there is not meticulous management and selection of materials and other resources. Mitigation strategies involve the estimation and monitoring of individual project expenses, followed by adherence to a rigorous procurement procedure to guarantee that all costs remain within the allocated budget (Larson, 1).. 2. Project duration risk: To meet the 12-week deadline, the project must progress at an aggressive speed, which increases the likelihood of overlooking or failing to complete individual tasks on time. 3. Project scope risk: Given the constraints of time and budget, there is a possibility that the intended scope of work may not be fully accomplished. Consequently, there is a chance that the construction of the entire apartment, including the master bedroom, master bathroom, kitchen, and living room, may not be completed as originally intended. Possible mitigation strategies
encompass meticulous project planning and proactive management of any alterations or scope- related challenges that arise (Larson, 1). In summary, by effectively identifying, managing, and mitigating all potential risks, it is feasible to accomplish this project within the designated timeframe and budget.
