Assigment#4 (TEAM): Project Mission Statement
(S/UN)
Due in Moodle by 5 PM on Monday, September 25
Only 1 member of the team should submit on the team’s behalf
Describe your team’s efforts and outcomes during Lab#3 (Sep 16 / Sep 19). Your response should
include: 1) description of the process used to screen the 2~4 shortlisted opportunities down to the
one that you will pursue; 2) project mission statement that will guide the rest of your PD process; and
3) a table of your target customer types and segments.
To screen down our four opportunities of an adjustable car visor, cooling backpack, sink/splash guard,
and cutting board to one, we compiled a document containing solutions to our possible opportunities.
This document
consisted of 1 to 3 different existing solutions to our last 4 ideas.
After we reviewed the document, we narrowed the four opportunities down to two opportunities based
on what we thought had the most opportunity for improvement. The opportunities that “we thought
had the most opportunity for improvement” were opportunities that had the fewest existing solutions,
and opportunities that we could think of different improvements for. The sunvisor already had multiple
alternatives and there was nothing that we could think of that could improve the original sun visor that
the solutions we documented did not fix. The no-sweat backpack had many solutions, and there was
nothing that we could think of adding to improve on them that would be feasible to complete with the
resources we have in this course.
With the final two options of sink splash guard and cutting board, we answered the
Real-Win-Worth it
(RWW)
questions that we learned about in class. From those questions, we focused on questions
regarding resources, costs, improvement, target market, and viability of the product to decide which
was the best option. We discussed feasibility based on the range of the target audience; listing the
different audiences these two products would be marketed towards. Then we discussed possible
improvements, such as the fit/shape of the guard and the modularity of the cutting board. Lastly, we
discussed the available resources that this course offered us. From these questions and the
comparison of the answers, we decided that a cutting board would be the most feasible opportunity
for us to move forward with.
