4.1 What are the key reasons continuous improvement takes so long to
implement?
The most common reasons are as follows:
Steady
-
This type of process produces a chain of change over time, rather than a sole
change.
Evidence-Based
-
The business person involved with the market use data to inform their
choices. They frequently study the results from the past and use them for
future reference.
Practical
-
The main objective of continuous improvement is to make a change for
something particular. It does not include theory over practical.
Flexible -
As long as the process here focuses on minor changes, it’s easy to adjust the
status as long as you go along. This risk involved here is less.
4.2 Which types of waste does Pull production help eliminate? Explain
how it is done
Overproduction
-
Pull production reduces setup times and smaller batches can be economically
manufactured.
-
Usage of pull system to control how much production takes place by Kanban.
Overprocessing
-
Orders are processed as per customer requirements to manufacturing
specifications.
-
Just checking potential generalization to the manufacturing process.
Inventory
-
Eliminates buffers between steps in continuous flow production.
-
Raw materials are needed as per demand and wastage is negligible.
Defects
-
Design Processes so they are less likely to produce defects.
-
The product can be provided as per instructions by consistent methods.
Transportation
-
The supply chain management is well mannered and selected clients are
given delivery without any disruptions. -
Design sequential and linear flow from materials to finished goods.

Waiting
-
Standardized Management to ensure that persistent times are used for each
step of production.
-
Manufacturing should be in flow and no buffers between steps in production.
Motion
-
Work should be assembled logically.
-
Manufacturing plants should have alternate types of equipment that reduce
motion.
4.3 Explain the advantages and disadvantages of using Pull production to
improve the business?
Advantages
-
Pull production has a limited inventory; it’s customer-centric; it also improves cash flow. -
Pull systems is the manufacturing system, where the product is supplied on daily demands and customers’ selection or choice flows from market to management. Which is beneficial for future reference.
-
Pull system also helps to reduce storage goods and cost of carrying through staff.
-
It is ideal for premium-priced products which help companies to create a domain in the market
Disadvantages -
The process of the pull system which includes setup and time should be
prioritized or else it will lead to unhappy customers and each of the jobs is a
high-stress rush order job. MSE507 Lean Manufacturing Page 3 of 4
