Course Introduction & Knowledge Exploration
My Name is Krystina Taylor, I am from Palm Coast, Florida. I am currently unemployed. I have
5 kids. I have two daughters and 3 sons. I have my bachelor’s degree in accounting. I have
decided to take a different route in life and try a new career as I am not getting anywhere with
accounting, so I decided to pursue Medical Coding & Billing. I am hoping to be able to obtain a
job within the medical field focusing on the coding and billing aspect of the medical field. I am
not sure quite sure how insurance claims go with medical coding so I am not sure how much
knowledge I would apply when I do get a job in the medical coding field.
I personally do not have any experience with insurance claims processing and the adjudication
process. I personally feel like learning when the claim should be approved or denied could be a
bit challenging. I would think you would really have to have a great understanding of benefits
when it comes to this. Since everyone has different benefits, I really feel like this could be very
challenging.
Another challenge I would like to learn more about is how do you know whether the information
is correct that is sent over from the physician’s office. What if the claim is missing important
information that we may need to be able to figure out if the claim should be paid or denied. Also
when the claim is submitted to the insurance company can we depend on the correct CPT code or
HCPCS code and modifiers being on the claim or would you have to do more research
information to make sure the codes and modifiers are correct.
