The objective is to create a comprehensive solution for various computer needs, including the sale of computer hardware, software, replacement parts, and computer repair services. To gather insights, discussions were held with industry experts who emphasized the significance of effective management, skilled technicians, and a commitment to continuous learning. The analysis identified opportunities for growth while recognizing challenges related to staffing and competition. This research assists Lakewood IT in making an informed decision about their expansion plan. Introduction: The owner of Lakewood IT is considering a significant expansion by introducing an IT service department to their existing offerings. This expansion aims to position Lakewood IT as a comprehensive one-stop solution for all computer-related needs, including the sale of computer hardware and software, replacement parts, and computer repair services. Nevertheless, there remain crucial aspects to be determined concerning the setup of this new department. It will involve the presence of both online and on-site technicians who can assist customers with their computer issues. These services encompass scheduling appointments, conducting technical assessments, estimating costs, and conducting necessary computer repairs. Adapting to this change may also require modifications in how they manage computer parts. Problem Statement The primary challenge revolves around determining the feasibility of adding an IT service department to Lakewood IT's business within a six-month timeframe. This decision necessitates a comprehensive examination of their internal strengths and weaknesses,
alongside an exploration of external opportunities and threats. The objective is to ensure that this expansion is in harmony with the company's long-term strategic goals. SWOT Analysis STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES/LIMITATIONS Lakewood IT has established a strong presence and reputation in the computer industry, which can be leveraged. The company already boasts two well- established departments catering to computer-related needs, providing a solid foundation for this expansion. The introduction of IT services positions Lakewood IT as an all-encompassing provider for diverse computer requirements. Concerns have been raised regarding the skills and knowledge of certain technicians, potentially impacting the quality of service. Inefficient utilization of staff and resources could lead to operational challenges. The parts department may need to adapt their practices to support the new service effectively. OPPORTUNITIES THREATS Implementation of a service management framework and the employment of skilled technicians can lead to improved service quality. Commitment to ongoing learning and skill development can enhance the overall customer experience. Demonstrating financial viability can help justify the presence of IT services in a competitive market. Inadequate staffing levels may impede the ability to meet service objectives promptly. A lack of support from senior management may hinder the implementation of necessary changes. Lakewood IT faces competition from established IT service providers. Summary of SWOT Analysis In conclusion, this analysis serves as a guide to help Lakewood IT navigate the decision to incorporate an IT service department. It sheds light on their strengths and areas that need attention. With this information, they can make an informed decision about the proposed expansion, ensuring it aligns with their long-term business objectives.
