Example: Telephone Pole Design
Example: Elderly
Example:
Telephone pole design institutions have several wings that are connected by a central corridor. These designs can have a physical
impact on elderly inmates. Older inmates may struggle getting around the long corridors typically present in these designs. Gaining access to medicine and services can be problematic. These institutions can also have a psychological
impact on elderly inmates. Older inmates may feel the stress of being placed with younger inmates. They may feel more vulnerable to being attacked. There could be a sense of social isolation. And, further stress could be felt due to the inability of staff being able to gain control of a corridor in the event of a riot (Siegel & Bartollas, 2018). Further, this design could affect inmate/officer relationships
. This type of style creates a distant relationship between officers and inmates. As a result, officers may not realize the unique needs of the elderly inmates and may have the same expectations of them as they do of the younger inmates.

Campus Design
Women
Women incarcerated are allowed to move around the open environment and have access to resources like medical treatment; campus design is either utilized in minimal or median security levels and
cannot physically affect them (Siegel, 2017). Because campus design facilities provide greater freedoms, everything is accessible, including schools, and women have better-visiting policies—some may even be allowed to return home for a short while—being imprisoned there has a
less psychological effect on women (Siegel, 2017).
Because of the campus's layout and the fact that only non-violent criminals are allowed, contact between convicts and officers is generally cordial and safe, which has a beneficial effect on the inmate-office relationship (Siegel, 2017).

Minimum Security
Males
Compared to other kinds of prisons, minimum security institutions are more permissive; they may or may not have fences. Other than requiring men to go to the cafeteria or medical facilities for meals, these
amenities could not have much of an effect on their physical health. Males may have psychological consequences from these facilities, particularly if they are mentally ill, aged, or incapacitated and fear being
attacked or sexually molested. The interactions between inmates and officers are impacted by minimum security prisons. Although the male convicts in these prisons typically don't trust the guards, their interactions are generally safer (Siegel, 2017).
