Step 2. Evaluation: Write a detailed paragraph in which you explain what you learned about yourself as you completed the LASSI Inventory, reviewed your results, and rated your skills in the exercise above. Your response should be a minimum of 10 complete sentences. Answer: I honestly was not shocked by my ratings. These are things that I have always known and that have kept me from going to school for so long. I am taking full advantage of this class to allow myself to adjust to school so that this time I can be successful at college. My goal this time around is to better prioritize school to eliminate the anxiety and stress that come along with studying or taking tests. I plan to allow extra time to be able to point out important things in the weekly readings. This will improve my anxiety and my information processing. Also, taking the brakes when needed will improve my concentration. Planning is the key, and I adjust my plans each week to continue to improve my time management. The Lassi has provided good information to help in this class and all my upcoming classes. I wish this class was offered the first time I went to school. It would have made a big difference. I also plan to use the resources that the school offers me. Instead of thinking I need to do it all on my own, This time around, I will accomplish my degree. Part 2: LASSI Modules Instructions Make sure to: (1) Complete the LASSI Inventory, and then (2) Register for the LASSI Modules by following instructions included in the Unit 3 Assignment webpage area. Once registered, choose one of your LOWEST rated modules and one of your HIGHEST rated modules, read about each one, and then complete the following: Step 1: LOWEST rated module: Name of module: Anxiety Based on the information contained in the module you listed above, describe the most important or helpful items you came across as you reviewed the information contained in the module and explain how you will apply this information as you focus on being a successful student. Your response should be a minimum of five complete sentences. Answer: I have learned that I can control my anxiety, and this is something I have to do in order to be successful at school. I am going to trick my brain into believing I am smart and I can do the work. My plan is to practice positive affirmations daily. I am smart, I can do the work, I will pass the test, and I will pass school. Eventually, I will convince my brain to believe these things. When I start down a negative path, I have to immediately turn it off and say my positive affirmations. Step 2: HIGHEST rated module: Name of module: Self Testing Based on the information contained in the module you listed above, describe the most important or helpful items you came across as you reviewed the information 2
contained in the module and explain how you will apply this information as you focus on being a successful student. Your response should be a minimum of five complete sentences. Answer: I have set a goal to complete school this time, but I think I need to set achievement goals at the start of each class to stay focused on the goal throughout the entire year. This will help with my Self Testing issues. When I am reading, I will make notes and highlight information, and then prior to taking a test, I will review my notes to make sure I have understood what I read and do additional research on what I have read. I will try to relate the reading to my lift to make sure I am comprehending the reading prior to testing. I will also try to document the times I lose focus or am not remembering something so I can try to adjust my surroundings or what I was doing at the time. As I am working on material for school, I will set up breaks to check to make sure I am understanding and comprehending what I have read or reviewed. Setting up these breaks will help eliminate reading the whole assignment, not understanding any of it, and getting frustrated and walking away. Part 3. Reflection: Write a detailed paragraph in which you explain how you will strive to improve your learning success by utilizing effective time, stress, and study strategies. Please refer to information from Units 2 and 3. Your response should be a minimum of 10 complete sentences. Answer: My first goal is to plan for the week. Plan which days I plan to do each activity and allow time to reflect on what I read. I will also go through the assignment’s multiple times. I will take the needed breaks to review what I have read and make sure I am comprehending what I read. I will start each day with a positive affirmation to change my way of thinking. I need to get out of the bad habits of saying I cannot pass this class, that I do not understand, or comparing myself to other students. I plan to speak up and ask for help when needed. Most important is making sure I am not rushing to complete the task and half-doing it. I will set weekly goals for each unit I am working on. I will check off each task throughout the week to feel accomplished. I plan to refer back to all of my notes throughout this class to make sure I am successful at school this time around. The most important thing is being prepared, allowing extra time for breaks, and testing myself to make sure I understand what I have read. I have read over multiple things, got to the end of the reading, and have not retained any of it. I will allow time to do research and test my knowledge instead of reading it all at once. I will read over the assignment multiple times. Most likely, I will use the tutoring center that the school offers and not worry about judgment. We all need help at times. 3
