SNHU 107 Project Example Academic Success Plan Use this template to address the steps in your Project Guidelines and Rubric. Complete all parts of this template by replacing the bracketed text with your responses. Be sure to proofread the entire document before submitting. Name: 1. Identify a problem-solving technique or method you have used in a previous situation and explain how it helped you. How might problem-solving methods be different in diverse cultures or fields of work? How can effective problem solving help you in your academic journey? I have used the trial-and-error problem solving method. This has helped me in many situations. I had a problem submitting my assignment in Brightspace and I tried multiple practical solutions until I had solved the problem and submitted my assignment. Problem solving might look different in different fields of work. For example, in the medical field, there might not be time to use the trial-and-error method as a situation could be life or death. In that field, they might use the gut instinct problem solving method or the heuristic problem-solving method because it is timelier. Effective problem solving can help me in my academic journey because it will improve my communication skills with people and help me gain confidence in addressing issues. 2. Identify your learning style and explain how knowing/learning about your learning style helped support your success throughout this course. My learning style is read/write learning style. In this class, I have learned about how I can study best and prioritize my time. This comes from knowing how I learn best. Knowing that my learning style is reading and writing things down helped me take better notes in a way that worked for me and to study better. It also helped me make a daily to-do list so I could stay on top of my assignments. 3. Identify which of the five successful habits of an SNHU student have been most helpful for you throughout this course. Explain how those habits have helped you. I think two of the 5 Successful Habits of an SNHU student really helped me this term: logging in early and reaching out for help. I logged in every Monday morning to view my assignments and made a plan for the week. As the week went on, if I got stuck, I reached out to my instructor for help. I also watched the learning community videos to walk me through the assignments. I was nervous to reach out for help, but realized how quickly everyone got back to me and wanted to make sure my questions were answered. 4. Explain how you will stay on track in your courses and overcome interruptions that may impact your schedule. I am going to make a to-do list for each week that will show what I must do for my classes and anything outside of class. I will also be sure to work closely with my advisor and
instructor if I get stuck. I want to have my assignments done by each Friday so I will have the weekend to spend time with my family and relax. My biggest interruptions tend to be my children when they are home. I plan to work on assignments before I go into work and they are up for the day, and/or work on assignments when they are asleep. 5. Choose two SNHU resources (departments and resources that are part of SNHU) and two social supports (people, places, and things outside of SNHU) that will help the most with achieving your mission and goals , and that will help you prioritize your time. Also indicate why these resources and social supports are key for your success. SNHU resource Instructor My instructor can help me understand my coursework and assignments. I want to be sure I do these correctly and turn them in on time, so I want to connect with them as much as possible to pass my courses and stay on track. SNHU resource Academic Support I struggle with my writing sometimes and have some classes coming up (like math) that I am not very excited about. I have submitted some of my assignments to Academic Support and got a lot of feedback from the writing team. In addition, I will be able to use the tutors and/or academic coaches to support me in my courses to earn my degree. Social support My partner My partner is a great supporter for me to earn my degree. He helps me with the kids so I can study and also helps around the house. These two things will keep me on track to earn my degree and pass my classes. Social support My best friend My best friend is very encouraging and gives me great advice about staying on track in my classes. When I run into a challenge or need motivation, she helps me focus. Having her support keeps me motivated to complete my courses and earn my degree. 6. List your personal academic mission statement. My academic mission is to complete my bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources by May of 2025. I will use this degree to move up at my company into a human resources position, hopefully a trainer, where I can help other employees at my company better understand complex policies and feel comfortable knowing their position. With this education, I will be able to have a career that allows me to provide better for my family and give them the life and fun they deserve while also making my parents proud. 7. List your THREE short-term academic goals. Goal #1: To get all A’s in my courses for the next two terms. Goal #2: To use the Academic Support services for my projects and writing assignments over the next three months.
Goal #3: To meet with the SNHU Career team by the end of the year to see the career options I have in my field. I am still unsure of what I want to do and know they can help me create a plan for my success. 8. Describe the importance of setting goals on your academic journey. Setting goals gives me steps to cross off my to-do list on the way to earning my degree. Setting goals is important as I want to be sure I can pass my classes and graduate on time. 9. Explain how you are going to stay motivated to achieve your goals and mission statement, based on what you have learned in SNHU 107. I am my biggest motivator. I have a to-do list for each week. I know I can use my SNHU resources (plan to meet with my advisor every other week to check in) and even made myself a small reward system (like going out to eat as a family to celebrate) for each class I pass! It is key for me to prioritize my time in a way that works for me, and SNHU 107 taught me that. 10. Explain why an awareness of diversity is beneficial to giving and receiving feedback when collaborating with others. It is important for me to be aware of other people, how they work, how they think, and how my actions/perceptions might be different. I will often need to work in a team (in school and outside of school), so I need to be willing to work with others and learn from them. I also have learned that feedback helps me grow! I might not always love the feedback, but I can learn from it and make changes to achieve my goals. 11. Explain why it is important to take ownership, be vulnerable, ask for help, and have an open mind to achieve your goals. I learned that being vulnerable is actually a strength. I always thought being vulnerable or asking for help showed that I was weak. When you need help, it is encouraged to ask for help. Having an open mind also lets you see other people’s perspectives, so I am doing my best to keep an open mind. 12. Explain what your biggest takeaway was from this course. My biggest takeaway is that SNHU wants me to succeed on my academic journey. SNHU offers a number of resources to keep students on track to achieve their goals. I now feel comfortable using the SNHU resources and know they will help me each term.
