Describe three challenges the instructional coach faces in building rapport with faculty and
staff.
Hello all,
Sometimes coaches might find it difficult to approach adults because of the different
personalities and knowledge they have. There are many challenges coaches face when trying
to build rapport with faculty and staff. Teachers might feel they are already known what to do
and might not want to take advice from coaches. Also, it can be difficult to build rapport with
faculty and staff when their information is not credible. In order for people to want to work
with coaches they have to be seen as a credible source (DeWitt, 2020). When coaches are
seen as a credible source, they will have the opportunity to be more impactful in their
position (DeWitt, 2020). Lastly, when teachers see coaches as compliance officers. Coaches
must build a relationship with staff and encourage them and come up with a plan instead of
constantly questioning them.
