Outline the Kyoto Protocol and Australia’s obligations under the Protocol, as well as its current targets and the adequacy of these targets. Kyoto Protocol legally comes to thirty-eight industrialized countries to reduce production of six "greenhouse" gases, although The United States abandoned Kyoto in 2001 and Australia would not ratify it. However, the collective agreement was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2 percent from the 1990 level between 2008 and 2012. Australia agreed to a target of limiting itself to an 8% increase in greenhouse gas emissions. Emissions from the energy sector are expected to increase by 40% by 2010. But, emissions of energy use have increased by 6%. Also, the forecast suggests that to meet the Kyoto goal of 8% growth, energy and other emissions must increase by only 21% or less. This represents a significant reduction on current estimates. 2. Outline the purpose and scope of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate The Asia-Pacific Partnership (APP) on Clean Development and Climate was an initiative by Australia. Besides, it also an initiative by other countries including Canada, the People's Republic of China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States, accounting for nearly half of the world's emissions, Energy use, GDP and population. The group was formed to simplify voluntary cooperation in the exchange and dissemination of more energy efficient and cleaner technologies that promote the achievement of each countries' energy and climate change policies. The Climate Change Partnership Initiative will support developing countries in the Asia- Pacific region to support climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives, in particular improving water resources management and energy management 3. Outline the purpose and scope of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) EPBC Act enables the Australian Government to involve with states territories in provided national plan for environmental and heritage conservation and biodiversity conservation to accomplish sustainable use of natural resources. Furthermore, this community recognizes the importance of landlords and indigenous people promoting a cooperative approach to the protection and management of the environment involving governments. For the purpose to attain the Australian Government has to adopt an efficient and timely Commonwealth environmental assessment and approval process that will ensure activities that are likely to have a significant impact on the environment. 4. Outline the purpose and scope of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act Regulations EPBC Act Regulations that encompass the collection of laws, regulations, agreements and common law, are designed to protect and manage matters that include heritage, ecological communities, migratory species, marine areas, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, As nuclear are important nationally. Outline the purpose and scope of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Scheme, established by the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER Act), is a single national framework for the dissemination and dissemination of information related to greenhouse gas emissions, greenhouse gas projects, energy production. Energy consumption of corporations to formulate government policy and inform the Australian public. In addition, the NGER Act aims to ensure that the net cover of greenhouse gases from operating a designated large facility does not exceed the baseline applicable to the emission facility. 6. Outline the purpose and scope of the Australian Packaging Covenant voluntary code of practice. Australian Packaging Covenant is an agreement between the supply chain and all levels of government to reduce the environmental impacts of consumer packaging through a high priority on avoiding and reducing packaging waste. To achieve packaging design for companies to use resources efficiently and minimize environmental impacts without compromising product quality and safety. In addition, increased recovery and recycling of used packaging from homes. 7. Outline the purpose and scope of the Australian Ecolabel Program voluntary code of practice Australian Ecolabel Program is a voluntary way of environmental performance certification and labelling. It assists to identify environmentally superior products and services, within a specific product and service category. The product (s) must be fit to meet its intended purpose or application for certification. A minimum level of quality and durability is implied before GECA ecology is displayed on the product. The applicant must ensure that the product is fit for its intended purpose 8. Identify one internal information source and one external information source that can be used to plan and develop a company’s sustainability policy. For each source, explain how this source can be used to develop the sustainability policy. Electricity bills can be an indicator for creating obligations through internal sources within organizations. When it is decided to install a permanent environment within the office, the right balance of cost and comfort will be able to maintain practical stability in installing an energy light globe that senses the extra amount of electricity. There are voluntary groups of institutions that are based on the main objective of care, sustainability and environmental aspects. They are involved in spreading awareness about environmental protection of social issues. These create obligations within business organizations and force them to engage with such organizations in order to increase their stability. 9. BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability environmental improvement and establishes the organization's environmental policy. II. Planning - An organization first identifies environmental aspects of its actions, such as air pollutants or hazardous wastes, which can have negative effects on people and / or the environment. The organization then sets out the important aspects to prepare an action plan to meet the goals. III. Implementation - An organization follows an action plan using the necessary resources. An important component is employee training and awareness for all employees 14. Outline how a business can use environmental sustainability indicators and two examples of indicators that can be used. An indicator is a measure that reflects the state of an environmental, economic or social system over time. The objectives of the indicators are to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and performance of sustainable business goals and targets, communicate to various stakeholders, and compare the actions and performance of firms that may or may not implement sustainable business. Examples of quantitative indicators are the total amount of air emissions, such as CO2, or the total amount of hazardous waste. Qualitative indicators include social dimensions of a firm's activities, such as changes in cultural values or equity. 15. Outline how a business can use life cycle management procedures to assist with implementing sustainability practices. Usually, a business organization use Life Cycle Sustainability Management (LCM) for purpose in controlling approach that provides business a systematic way of managing their sustainability issues. The PDCA (Plan, Do, Check and Act) cycle is one of the quality management tools that can be used by companies to implement LCM initiatives in order to improve their sustainability performance. The “Plan” step comprises identifies the main goal, purpose and establishes the processes. The “Do” step is a process of implementing the plan to make the target. The “Check” step analyses whether or not they meet the expected outcome. The “Act” step is based on the output results from the “Check” stage. 16. Outline at least two barriers to introducing policies and procedures, and strategies that can be used to address each of the barriers you identify. • Strategy that is very sublime and non-practical. At times, the strategic direction looks good on paper, but it is not practical. When the direction is not practical, it will not move people to take action for the reason that the strategic direction needs to be wrapped up in that vision. • Focuses on excessive focus. The incredibly fast pace of business in today's world, it is easy for leaders to get busy with the immediate and urgent things that are in front of them and lose sight of their main results and objectives. Because of this, a strong strategy provides the framework for effective decisions. © J+S Learningwork 2017

BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability Assessment Task 2 Grow Management Consultants Sustainability policy and procedure briefing report Introduction . Grow Management Consultants (GMC) engage in activities that impact the environment, use resources and create waste and emissions. Examples include using non recycled paper as well as use of vehicles. Creating a Sustainability Management System will allow GMC to control and monitor such impacts and at the same time achieve environmental objectives. This policy should be communicated to stakeholders and implemented and reviewed on a regular basis. Sustainability facts and figures Some key facts related to sustainability include: - By recycling 1 plastic bottle, enough energy can be saved to power the computer for 25 minutes - The amount of waste deposited in landfills in Australia increased by 12% from 19 million tonnes to 21.3 million tonnes between 2001 and 2007 - Recycling a glass container saves enough energy to power a 100Watt light bulb for 4 hours - A tree makes about 3000 papers - More than 6 billion plastic bags are used each year - If you use recycled paper, the new production material uses 99% less water and 50% less energy in the production process than paper. Sustainability benefits - The company is seen as environmentally responsible as the business has a better reputation in the community - Savings from applying costs such as using two-sided printing - More efficient and competitive - Attracting and retaining employees improves customer sales and loyalty - Increase supplier commitment Business planning, opportunities and sustainability Sustainability should be built into business planning and should be used to inform business opportunities. There is a fast-growing market in relation to sustainable products and services. Many businesses want to see how they can include this group in their target market by providing environmentally or socially superior products to their competitors. Examples include renewable energy solutions as well as more responsibly sourced products such as coffee. Permanent goods and products may also receive government grants or have other financial benefits. So, these things should © J+S Learningwork 2017

BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability be kept in mind while planning the business and looking at opportunities. Example sustainability policies and procedures GMC must comply with several legal requirements regarding workplace stability. These are relevant to a wide range of GMC's business. Relevant legal requirements regarding energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and ozone depleting substances include: a) Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 b) Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure (BEED) Act 2010 c) Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Amendment Act 2010 d) Energy Efficiency in Government Operations (EEGO) Policy (2006) Description of policies and procedures researched within policies and procedures : The regulatory bodies that supply environmental legislation are called environmental protection agencies. State and territory specific laws are capable of addressing issues that are specific to plant life, wildlife, agriculture, and industries that represent a state or region. International environmental law is the third regulatory body that organizations should consult on matters of environmental sustainability. International Environmental Law began in 1972 at the Stockholm Convention on the Environment. Major organizations responsible for making international law in the case: - United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) - European Union - OECD Council of Europe It is important that organizations consult all of the above regulatory bodies when they identify legislation affecting the industry in which they practice. When working with companies outside Australia, an understanding of what laws exist in companies' countries is also helpful. Environmental regulations - Environmental regulations are enforced by Australia's Department of the Environment to cover specific licensing and legislative agreements in more detail and in some cases requirements that are in addition to the already existing legislation. In this regard, the management concerned has to come forward to resolve these emerging issues while maintaining the intensity of its emergence. For example, appealing for fairly yet valuable amendments to the prevailing legislative restrictions indicating the need for a plan to execute. Some dimensions may exist that will not give any immediate and tangible results but have the potential to serve ecological balance in the recent future. In cases of this type, management is required to convince the relevant legal authority. Furthermore, if subordinates appear adamant about their compulsory acts maintaining their prevalent demerits, they need to be persuaded accordingly. In this regard, management can work on the enhancement of subordinate coordination modules to minimize the adverse effects of hostility while encouraging the subordinate cooperation of subordinates. The amount of hazardous waste generated at a health facility is related to the amount of hazardous materials purchased. Also, it affects how those materials are used. This section of the web site lists pollution prevention (P2) ideas that can affect the amount of hazardous materials and waste at your facility. They are classified into purchasing processes and raw material usage and handling suggestions. Life cycle mapping © J+S Learningwork 2017
BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability It mainly refers to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a decision-making tool commonly employed to identify, quantify, and assess the major environmental impacts of all overall policies over the lifetime of a particular project. Industrial scholars as well as core consumers are used to employ modules to conduct comparative analysis between products of similar specifications where the benchmark is fixed according to the associated environmental standards. In the current context, LCA can be employed to define goals and the subsequent scope of sustainability policy remains to be implemented. In addition, it is a reliable tool to identify the axioms and constraints of a certain business with the identification of some rudimentary yet important factors such as energy use, materials and emissions impacts. Legal requirements in relation to workplace sustainability Existing operations with the latter contribute an important tacit understanding, shaping the moot organizational scope of the forthcoming sustainability policy. As the current stance and acting policies are specific to demonstrate prevailing measures, implemented to maintain controlling players that have the potential to adversely affect key environmental components, these actions There is a cardinal for access to the current state. A unit before working on the forthcoming sustainability policy. In addition, the prevailing measures have a reliable index to obtain the ratio of commitment that the respective entity will demonstrate to perceptions of restoring ecological balance. Environmental Legislation - The Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999 (EPBA) is the central piece of legislation that the Department of Environment seeks to implement. The EPBA is the framework by which all other Australian laws relating to environmental issues are written. Each state and territory had its own specific legislation regarding environmental issues. Example sustainability actions to inform action plan. Sustainability is about biodiversity and nurturing human welfare, equity and freedom. This means maintaining the security of economics without contaminating water, soil and air. For this, there is a need to create economics and social systems that meet human physical needs concurrently. Sustainability is achieved when we understand the economic, environmental and social consequences of our actions and make deliberate choices that allow all people to live healthy, productive and enjoyable lives. Sustainability is not something that simply happens, it is something that must be employed, communicated and integrated into the culture of an organization from the top of the structure through all layers. Sustainable workplace policies build on an organization's commitment to developing staff members' ability to become active contributors to local workplace solutions to local global work problems such as climate change, environmental pollution, and degradation of natural resources. An organization that is growing and hopes to sustain that growth needs a set of strategies to develop its program, build a solid financial foundation, and prepare for the challenges ahead. In other words, it requires a strategic plan. Simply put, a strategic plan is a vision of the future of your organization and the basic steps needed to achieve that future. A good plan should include goals and objectives, desired results, metrics to measure your progress, time and budget. The reliance on technology that brings it with potential risks is leading to the creation of a new type of organization — a high-reliability organization. The idea is to design the organization specifically to manage the serious risks associated with the use of technologies that, if they fail, can have extremely © J+S Learningwork 2017
BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability serious consequences. It is a complex undertaking. A key feature of advanced and automated technologies is that their operators and managers increasingly move away from the processes for which they are responsible. With older technologies, operators can see and touch what they have controlled or produced. Mechanisms such as gears and pistons were visible, and their means of action and control were evident. Mental images of the way things have worked and how they can go wrong were easily learned and easily shared. People, both alone and in teams, were an integral part of the control loop that drove these technologies. Performance Indicators Ways to check our indicators: - Review energy bills / audit bills: Energy audit or review is the first step taken to gain an understanding of current and past energy use and to identify areas of wastage and opportunities for possible conservation of energy. - Greenhouse emissions: The release of major gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and greenhouse gases is regulated. - Water and waste minimization: key information by breaking down emissions, releases and produced waste in environmental modules. - Carbon reduction: The use of public transport to work or replace older vehicles helps reduce the carbon footprint. - Options for strategies that can be implemented to ensure that resource efficiency within the business is continuously reviewed and improved. Options for strategies to ensure continuous improvement of resource efficiency It is important to provide recommendations on malleable performance in order to measure environmental performance along with implementing policies and procedures. Possible strategies to ensure resource efficiency are: - Provide adequate training and demonstration to all employees - Organizing meetings to resolve all issues arising in the organization - Measurement and monitoring to identify issues and targets and improve performance - Implementing compliance and reporting mechanisms - Leadership and workplace culture that encourages employees to engage with sustainability practices - Installation of energy-saving bulbs (LEDs), automatic switches will also be useful to reduce unnecessary energy consumption. - Upgrading older vehicles for less pollution. - Effectiveness: It is important to examine and ensure the effectiveness of implementing the principles which helps to maintain about the policy statement. - Deadlines: When making a strategy it is important to check the time frame so that it is a good time to implement the strategy. Policy options There are three options for the following sustainability policies: Environmental related policies: Grow Consultant Management environmental policy helps to reduce toxic material and hazardous chemical use and reduce resource use. The main objective of this policy is to identify the waste stream leaving the site. © J+S Learningwork 2017

BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability Policies related to economic and social: Those policies intend to influence the overall economic growth of the company, its price level, employment and investment using monetary and fiscal instruments. Culture-related policies: Cultural policy is identified by majority of sustainable development goals, such as a focus on quality education and sustainable consumption. Policy, environmental impacts are minimized by encouraging visitors to consider sustainability and focus on management principles. The principles provide tools to track ecological challenges and mitigate climate change. Proposed scope of the policy Life cycle management uses a process, known as life cycle assessment (LCA), to assess the environmental impacts associated with a product, process, or service throughout its life cycle, processing, transporting, using, re-processing. The use is from the extraction of raw materials through recycling or disposal. For each of these steps, impacts are measured due to the resources used and environmental impacts. Life cycle assessment is a critical-to-critical analysis of a product or service. LCA can help a business identify the most effective improvement compared to environmental impacts and resource use. Life cycle assessment is one of five emerging international standards within the ISO 14000 series. LCA is used by government and industry decision makers to benchmark the environmental performance of products and processes. Benefits of life cycle assessment include: - Identify the most efficient and cost-effective options - Improve overall environmental performance - Elimination of waste resources and pollution - Producing environmentally sound products - Assessing the operations and production processes of an organization to identify improvement opportunities - Evaluation of economic costs of production of products and A comprehensive LCA is not relevant or really possible for small organizations. However, it is still possible to reap the benefits by adopting the 'life cycle' approach. The LCA process can be streamlined, with only the company investigating the parts or operations that have the most impact or potential for improvement. This can maximize the benefits and reduce the cost of LCA. 2. Send email to assessor © J+S Learningwork 2017

BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability Assessment Task 4 1) To implement the sustainability plan in the organization, the company needs to develop processes or guidelines that need to be followed by employees to implement the sustainability plan. This process serves as the framework for assisting employees and other stakeholders of the company to achieve the objectives created under the company's sustainability plan. The communication of the sustainability plan makes people aware of the implementation of the sustainability process but it does not allow them to know about their responsibilities to contribute to the plan for sustainability. Therefore, there is a need to develop a complete process that tells people about their responsibilities and their share so that they can contribute in achieving the objectives of sustainability in the organization. Process development To develop the process, it is very important to identify the stakeholders who need to follow the process. Process development requires several guidelines such as compliance guidelines, employee opinions, department positions, etc. This process should involve strategies, the key stakeholder who needs to implement the strategy, goal and responsibility: Strategy Target Compliance Stakeholder responsible Shortage Energy Use Energy use decreased by 15% as of December 2017 National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act All employees using the facilities of an energy-consuming organization. Purchase Green Try to buy equipment that is durable and green in nature. About 65% of the equipment should be green. N/A All employees working under the company's procurement department. Waste reduction Try to reduce waste production by 50% of the organization Policy of the organization All employees of the organization The communication process that has been used to communicate the above developed process is the poster. Posters have been made about the strategies that need to be implemented to achieve sustainability objectives. Posters and notices on office walls serve as a constant reminder to implement sustainability strategies. This helps people to know about the objectives of sustainability and conduct activities that can lead to environmental sustainability. The inclusion of charts and graphs in posters also helps to achieve the current state of stability and differentiation between the current situation and people so that people's efforts can be accelerated. © J+S Learningwork 2017
BSBSUS501 Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability 2) Usage Record Template Areas of RTO & practices reviewed Provide a brief description of the issue in this section. Use of consumables/ materials/ technology/ equipment Identify equipment that use energy and determine which equipment uses the most/least energy? Are switches left on overnight/weekend ? Do staff use the sleep mode/screen saver? What practices are currently in place to help minimise energy wastage? We can recognize that in general, all electrical installations are new, so almost all appliances use the same energy. This, it will stay overnight on weekends. • Yes, all computers have sleep and saver mode, and are always used. • Trying to turn off the lights before turning off and the air conditioning is not so strong Energy usage e.g. water, electricity gas How is energy used on a daily basis? What things/tasks use up the most energy? Are switches left on overnight/weekend ? Are staff using energy sensibly? What practices are in place to support effective energy use? - Are switches left overnight / on weekends? - Are employees using energy wisely? - What practices are there to support effective energy use? The energy commonly used on a daily basis is fine, as water is not a big deal at school, it is used for dishes and hand washing. Dishwasher, but that's when its dishes are full, to make the energy and water salty. Sometimes this happens, as I said earlier. Lights that have not been used are being tried to be switched off. Waste Describe workplace waste. How is it disposed of? Are staff conscious of waste management practices e.g. recycling, reuse, disposal? The big waste is with paper to dry hands - How is it disposed of? - Are staff conscious of waste management practices e.g. recycling, reuse, disposal? It is free and you can take as much as you need. Sometimes people are not conscious Date of inspection or review : 21/02/2021 Completed by: 22/02/2021 3) Develop a memo for staff about best practice sustainability procedures. © J+S Learningwork 2017
