Cargo Operations
Module five provides important information on cargo operations. From the information presented in the
module, one gains important knowledge on how to ensure the effectiveness of both passenger and
cargo operations. As an airline executive, I would want to service passenger and cargo operations
differently. This is based on the fact that cargo operations involve different steps and also complications.
As brought out by (American Airlines, 2013), the handling of cargo operations have to be taken into
account so as to ensure on-time delivery. Some of the cargo supplied by airlines include perishable
goods. These perishable products have to be delivered considering the temperature, storage, and the
packaging process. From the (American Airlines, 2013) video, one of the employees notes that the
delivery process is bound to fail when it is not done right. This is an Indication that cargo operations
requires improved focus as compared to passenger operations. Cargo operations also involve dealing
with different companies along the line (American Airlines, 2013). This means that all the requirements
of the companies have to be met by ensuring cargo is handled in the right manner. As an airline
executive, I would service cargo and passenger operations differently so as to prevent the mishandling of
cargo. As a result of the different processes involved, it is possible that the cargo is mishandled thus
contributing to not delivering the expected cargo. Therefore, by ensuring the cargo and passengers
operations are serviced differently, simplicity is ensured. Another reason for servicing cargo and
passenger operations differently is to prevent the additional costs. The prevention of additional costs is
related to the minimal or no damaged cargo by the airline. From the video, it is clear that the airline also
focuses on the transportation of fragile and high value cargo. Based on this, high costs have to be
incurred as a result of complains by the customers. Therefore, as an executive, I have to ensure that all
the personnel handling cargo operations are delivering their day to day operations at maximum
productivity. Another reason for handling cargo and airport operations differently is so as to ensure
efficiency in the delivery of cargo. Efficiency is ensured only when all the personnel and the resources of
an airlines are coordinated to prevent failure. In addition, delays in the delivery of cargo are prevented.
From the information presented in this paper, one thing that stands out is that the reputation of an
Airline in terms of quality passenger and cargo operations will improve. The improvement is related to
the different handling of both passenger and cargo operations.
