Module 6 Short Responses – Question 1 Which source will you analyze using active reading strategies? Include the name of the article, the author, the publication, the date, and where you found it. Read your chosen source using the active reading strategies you learned on the previous page. Then, summarize the overall meaning and content of the reading. Write your summary below. Your summary should be at least one paragraph long. The secondary source I am choosing is Hill, S. H. (2008, January 16). Cherokee Indian Removal. Encyclopedia of Alabama. Retrieved February 18, 2024, from https://encyclopediaofalabama.org/article/cherokee- indian-removal/ Title: Cherokee Indian Removal Author: Sarah H. Hill Publication: Encyclopedia of Alabama Date: January 16th, 2008 Found: Links from the Library of Congress I found this source online while looking through the Library of Congress. This article talks mainly about the Cherokee Nation and the process by which they were removed. 15000 Cherokee natives were forcibly removed from their Georgia, Tennesee, Alabama, and North Carolina homes and put in detention camps until the militia was ready for their removal west to present-day Oklahoma. There were a few Cherokee natives who agreed to obtain North Carolina citizenship instead of being removed. I made connections to this article because of my native lineage. I'm Cherokee and Pamunkey, being related to Pocahontas herself. I found the information in this article informative and straightforward. Module 6 Short Responses – Question 2 What events or historical forces contributed to the Boston busing crisis of the mid- 1970s? Name at least three, and briefly explain why you think each one was a contributory cause of the Boston busing crisis. 1.) Many of the African Americans in the community started to protest the quality of the public schools. This led to otherwise suppressed issues coming to light. This was fully contributory to the cause of Boston's busing crisis.
2.) In June in the mid-1970s it was determined that school segregation was unconstitutional in Boston so this was contributory. 3.) After the assassination of Dr. King racial tensions were on the rise, to begin with then Boston started busing furthering those racial tensions. Contributory. Module 6 Short Responses – Question 3 Name three specific consequences of the Boston busing crisis. The Boston busing crisis led to the desegregation of public schools. Riots and other racially charged protests and violence were on the rise. The Boston busing crisis caused white flight. This caused a decrease in the amount of white kids in the public school system thus causing a shortage in funding. Module 6 Short Responses – Question 4 Describe one cause of the event you have chosen for your historical analysis (keeping in mind that there are many), and explain one piece of evidence from your research that you will use to support this assertion. Describe one consequence of the event, and explain one piece of evidence from your research that you will use to support this assertion. The cause I am choosing is greed. I am using the quote, "Trail of Tears, the removal of the Cherokee Nation fulfilled federal and state policies that developed in response to the rapid expansion of white settlers and cotton farming and that were fueled by racism." (Hill, 2008)
