The topic I have chosen is The Cherokee Trail of Tears. To summarize, in 1830 President
Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act and this gave the federal government the power
to exchange Native Tribes land in the east of the Mississippi for land to the west of the
Mississippi. The Indian Removal Act was meant to negotiate removal treaties fairly, voluntarily,
and peacefully but that was not what happened. President Jackson and the federal government
then forced the Cherokee and four other tribes to vacate lands they lived on for generations. The
tribes experienced great suffering and even death during their forced relocation, (Pauls, 2023).
Research questions that I have based on this topic are: What were the events that led up to
and/or influenced President Andrew Jackson to enact The Indian Removal Act of 1830? Why
couldn’t the land President Jackson and the federal government were taking from these tribes be
shared? What happened to the Native tribes and the land they were forced onto after the forced
settlement? How has The Indian Removal Act of 1830 affected Native Americans throughout
history? – I have not settled on one specific research question. I would love everyone’s feedback
on these questions by either advice to make them stronger or a different direction to take.
As for the Quebecois immigration passage, there were some touches on the subject of
child labor, and I would like to know more about the children and their experiences and working
conditions they endured.
