Distinguish between primary and secondary sources.
Primary sources are first-hand accounts. They are created during the time of an historical event
or by someone that actively participated in the historical event. Photos, notes, newspapers from
a specific time are all primary sources. Also, if someone was involved or alive during a historical
event and they talked and/or wrote about it, it is still considered a primary source because they
were there first-hand. Secondary sources are sources created after the historical event. They are
considered books, biographies, dissertations and documentary films.
Explain why it is important to consult a variety of sources when conducting historical research. Include
specific details and examples.
It is important to consult a variety of sources because multiple sources can give you a wide range
of information regarding a specific historical topic. Also, someone can learn more than one
viewpoint and about a historical topic from an unbiased viewpoint.

are connected.
Although not as severe, our government not ratifying the equal rights amendment can be seen
in the same universe as my research question, what effect did the 1979 Iranian Revolution have
on the progress women made during the Shah of Iran? Not ratifying the equal rights amendment
is denying the amendment to the United States Constitution to guarantee equal rights for
American citizens regardless of sex.
