In 1933 Hitler refuses any payments – reduced to ZERO.

Hitler’s Rise to power Beer Hall Putsch (1923) – this was Hitler’s first attempt to overthrow the government. The revolution failed and Hitler was arrested. Trial for Treason (1923) – Hitler would face the charges of treason and receive a 6-year sentence. He would serve 9 months for a crime, which normally mandates execution.
Hitler’s Rise to power Mein Kampf – in prison Hitler would write a book that outlines his ideas of leadership and the fate of the Third Reich. Depression – in 1929, while Hitler was formalizing his Nazi party with storm troopers and representatives to run for office, the New York Stock Market crashes and sends the world into depression. Germany was hit very hard and many people were without food, jobs and dignity. Election results 1928 – 1932 – Hitler was able to win only 1/6 of the seats in the Reichstag, however he was able to make coalitions within the government. By 1933, he was given the position of Chancellor.
Hitler’s Rise to power Reichstag Fire (1933) – Hitler secretly orders the burning of the Reichstag and blames it on the communists. Enabling Act – on March 23 1933, Hitler convinced the members of the Reichstag to pass the Enabling Act. This would be the foundation of his dictatorship. The act allowed Hitler power to rule by decree for four years without anyone’s approval.

Hitler’s Rise to power Night of the long Knives (1934) – Hitler would remove all opposition. An elite group of storm troopers would execute all party dissidents. Death of Hindenburg (1934) – the last obstacle for Hitler would die later that year and he would merge to offices of Chancellor and President. Hitler now has full control.
Causes of WWII 1. TREATY OF VERSAILLES Creates the perfect conditions in Germany for extremism. G.A.R.G.L.E. Guilt Armed Reparations Germany Smaller League of Nations Extra – no union with Austria Hitler will use this treaty to gain support and make his view heard including Lebensraum (living space), Anschluss (union with Austria) Militarization and Anti-Semitism.
