How were the writings of de las Casas used to help a cause? He hoped that by exposing the brutality of the Spaniards, it would persuade the king and queen to protect the native people. 2. Were the natives aggressive and violent towards the Spanish at first? Use a quote from the document to support your answer. No, they were not violent "until that they were compelled to take up arms, provoked thereto by repeated injuries, violent torments, and unjust butcheries." 3. They were open to knowledge and understanding of the Catholic deity; they were not looking for "grace" to be saved. 4. Crop Rotation: Keeps the ground fertile. 15. According to Morton, how would the poor back in England benefit form living like the natives of New England? they wouldn't be starving in the streets.
