John Johnson HIS 200: Applied History Southern New Hampshire University September 8th, 2023 Topic and Research Question Topic: I've chosen to focus on the Trail of Tears for my historical event study. Involuntary removal of countless Cherokee and other Native American villages from broad areas of territory in Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama during the 1800s is the subject of this event. The Indian Removal Act, passed by the U.S. Congress in 1830, gave white Americans the right to take over Native American lands. Research Question: What authority did the Indian Removal Act grant the President , and why is this act significant in American history? Search Terms: Trail of Tears, Indian Removal Act, Historical impact of Indian Removal Act, Native American treaties, Trail of Tears significance Sources: " Riding the Trail of Tears" in Bison Books; 2011.
