Upon reviewing the videos and reading chapter 3 – 4 for module two, I have gained a deeper understanding of the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) process. I now understand that ETL is a critical process that involves analyzing and cleaning data before it can be utilized as a data set in a business environment. This process is widely adopted by companies globally. I have learned that data cannot be directly loaded into programs like Power BI without first being cleaned and transformed. The person responsible for the ETL process must have a thorough knowledge of data cleaning techniques to ensure that accurate data sets are presented within the Power BI program.
The ETL process ensures clean and accurate data for business purposes. For instance, a management team presenting data-driven facts requires up-to-date, precise data. The process helps pull sales data from different sources, transform it into a consistent format, and load it into a destination database or data warehouse. This is vital in stakeholder meetings as it ensures that data presented is reliable, leading to informed business decisions.
