1.
Identify the functions of law enforcement related to sanctuary cities in the resources provided. What is law enforcement allowed to do, according to Senate Bill 4? What impact or lack thereof has the law had on police operations? Law enforcement related to sanctuary cities arrest those who are in the country illegally and question the immigration status of those they arrest or detain including those in routine traffic stops. The Senate 4 Bill does not require all officers to ask about a person's immigration status, but instead allows
them to ask those questions at the officers' discretion. 2.

The US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld nearly all the laws of Senate Bill 4. However, it said that local authorities with limitedrecourses making them unable to uphold federal immigration enforcement are not breaking the law. They also struck down the part thatbars officials from even speaking on policies that can limit immigration enforcement. If that were to pass, that would be an obviousinfringement of the First Amendment.
