Book report on Martin Luther King Jr.’s Biography Tee Nguyen Advanced Reading - Lena Book report on Martin Luther King Jr.’s Biography 11/4/21 1. Introduction - The book introduces the life and career of fighting for equal rights for blacks by civil rights activist Martin Luther King (January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968) when he was a child, his name was Michael Luther King, then changed to Martin. - Born in the city of The historic Atlanta of America, Martin grew up under the strict upbringing of his parents and grandmother. From an early age, he was aware of the discriminatory actions around him. Growing up, becoming a pastor, he read a lot of books by famous scholars and found effective ways to reflect the real-life of African Americans and help them achieve equal rights. - He was deeply influenced by the outstanding leader Mahatma Gandhi of India, which was to chose the method of nonviolent struggle. He became an outstanding leader of the anti-apartheid movement, a pride of the black community, but also a target of terror and persecution by whites. Today, racism still exists, but the level is not as deep and serious as before thanks to the contributions of Pastor Martin Luther King and many other civil rights activists. It can be said that Martin Luther King has become a hero, peacemaker, and a great example for young people around the world. 2. Major events - In 1954, King became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Evangelical Church in Montgomery, Alabama. A human rights advocate, he was assigned to lead the Montgomery black bus boycott movement in 1955. In 1957, he was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization established to unite movements to fight against discrimination. He advocated the application of non-violent methods of Gandhi, who led the Indian people against the British Empire. During the 11-year period from 1957 to 1968, King traveled more than 6 million miles, gave more than 2,500 speeches; he appeared wherever there was injustice, opposition, and violence. In parallel, he also wrote 5 books and countless articles. In 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
When Martin Luther King Jr received the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolence, he was only 35 years old - the youngest man at the time. 3. Your evaluation - Martin Luther King is admired by many people around the world, myself included. He is a hero, peacemaker, and martyr. He is one of the most influential leaders in American history as well as the contemporary history of the nonviolent movement. - MLK led a civil rights movement focused on nonviolent protest. MLK's vision of equality and civil disobedience changed the world for his children and the children of all the oppressed. He changed the lives of African-Americans in his time and the decades that followed. - Along with President Abraham Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address," "I Have a Dream" is considered one of the most beloved and most quoted speeches in American history. He confided: "I have a dream, and one day this country will rise up to live true to its own convictions." We believe that this truth is complete, that all human beings are born with equal rights. 4. Recommendation - I really enjoyed reading this book. Martin Luther King inspires me because he stood up for what he believed in - against all odds. He inspires me with his humility and with his steadfastness in his approach to nonviolent activism. He inspires me by his ability to lead and inspire generations of Americans - both alive and after his assassination. I highly recommend everyone to read this book because it's very good and useful.
