The Phase 2 D160 CPE activities covered the implementation phase of the healthcare improvement project. This section is where my team ran into significant barriers and had to adjust the scope of our project. At the end of Phase 1, the HIP team was notified that there was a company-wide budget freeze for all non-essential functions and projects. Any project that had not already been scheduled for a customer-facing roll-out was indefinitely delayed. Since this HIP is primarily internally focused with a plan for customer-facing deliverables for the future, the budget was frozen and further progress is delayed. In an effort to continue forward progress and allow for completion of my MSN coursework, the scope of the project was modified from a full-company roll out to more of a focus group type roll out of a very small group. Regulatory review and graphic design services were both suspended, and personnel hours were limited to volunteer or free hours only. This dramatically slowed completion of the materials and limits the approved audience for the presentation since it has not passed regulatory review. I was able to obtain approval for the smaller roll out and evaluation on the basis of gaining better focus for the project and obtaining audience feedback for improvements. The HIP implementation went well, helpful feedback was received for future implementations, and the information was well received by the
audience.
While the Phase 2 activities created significant delays in the project completion, I feel that this phase likely taught me the most about project management and the importance of flexibility within the project
plan to ensure success.
