Report
The Impact of Emerging Technologies on Employment and Public Policy Of the emerging technologies talked about in the report, which one do you believe has a high potential of taking over people’s jobs? Why do you think so? Based on the emerging technologies discussed in the report, I believe that robotics has great potential to take over human jobs (West, 2015). For example, every tool industry once required hundreds of workers, but as robotic technology advances, robots are taking over industrial jobs, as owners believe that robots make the cost of materials significantly lower and faster. In fact, studies suggest that robots will take over 20 million industrial jobs by 2030 worldwide. This is a very serious problem because millions of unskilled workers will be affected, especially in a poor regional economy based on low-skilled workers, which can lead to increased income inequality. In my mind, these days, robots are everywhere because things are getting easier to use, which is exciting and scary at the same time because robots are taking over our jobs. Personally, I should make it my goal to learn how to code for future security. Looking at the emerging technologies discussed in the report, which one do you believe has the lowest potential of taking over people’s jobs? What are your reasons? Based on the emerging technologies discussed in the report, I believe that medical devices and machine-to-machine communication technologies are less capable of taking over human tasks. In my opinion, technology has made healthcare better, but it is not easy to replace the jobs of doctors and nurses. For example, blood pressure, blood oxygen level, and heart rate are medical device technologies (West, 2015). These examples are for monitoring the health of the patient; however, these technologies cannot replace the work of doctors and nurses because the medical industry is too sensitive, and human technology will not be enough to care for patients, Certainly, technology will help improve the roles of doctors and nurses by reducing medical errors and complications, but it will never replace doctors and nurses. Personally, just the thought of being in a hospital and having technology like this take care of my health without doctors and nurses scares me, which is why I believe technology like this can't take the jobs of doctors and nurses. How have some, or all of these emerging technologies impacted your life? These impacts can be positive, negative, or both.
Of course, all these new technologies mentioned in the report have had both positive and negative effects on our lives. On the positive side, there is no denying that this new technology has made our lives much easier, However, the negative impact of these technologies on our lives is that they make us lazy, and more importantly, what the report emphasizes, is the serious negative impact of these advanced technologies taking over many people's jobs (West, 2015). Just thinking about how millions of people lost their jobs due to technology in recent years is really sad because it leads to huge inequalities for unskilled workers that are getting worse.
