MI CASE STUDY You have reported to the ED for your shift. It has been snowing and cold for the past week. M.C. is a 55 year old bricklayer with a 33 pack year smoking history and is admitted with a dx of R/O MI. He has significant obesity with a beer belly and large waist. He reports a dietary history of high fat food and eating fast food for lunch every day. He comes to the ED complaining of unrelieved indigestion. His V/S are 200/ l04, 96, l8 and 98.0. He was placed on oxygen NC titrated to keep SA02 above 90 and nitroglycerin was also started. He was given aspirin 325 mg and metoprolol (Lopressor) 50 mg. As you enter the patient’s room, he demands a cigarette. 1.
What is the priority for this patient care? 2.
Angina not always presents as “pain”. What other descriptions might also be used by patients? 3.
Are you concerned about his anger regarding denial of his request for smoking and why? How should the nurse address it? 4.
