Greetings All,
According to (“Reducing Health Care Spending: What Tools Can States Leverage?,” 2021) There are
various ways that health policy might lower healthcare costs. Stressing preventative care is one of the
main strategies. Spending on healthcare can be greatly decreased by concentrating on the prevention of
serious illnesses that call for expensive treatments. This strategy not only reduces costs but also
enhances population health in general. Furthermore, prioritizing preventative care could help reduce the
overall costs related to treating serious and chronic illnesses down the road, which could save money
over time. Increasing competition among providers or insurers is one way to reduce spending. Narrower
and more localized approaches concentrate on excessive costs or use of medical services. The most
comprehensive direct methods concentrate on spending. Policy tactics can vary depending on the
situation and include soft encouragement, incentives, and rules with different levels of enforcement.
Health policy can also cut administrative costs, which in turn lowers healthcare spending. This can be
achieved by putting in place effective health information systems, cutting back on paperwork, and
streamlining billing procedures (Cutler, 2020). Health policy could be able to help enhance the standard
and affordability of healthcare services if these changes are implemented.

Greetings Kimberly,
Thanks for sharing. Legislative ideas to reduce healthcare costs are frequently presented to lawmakers in
the context of rising healthcare bills; one such proposal is the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
The
Inflation Reduction Act gives Medicare the authority to bargain on behalf of its members to lower the
prices of select expensive, well-known medications and possibly even slash costs across the board for
pharmaceuticals. Numerous health-related provisions are also included in this law, such as a three-year
reduction in Affordable Care Act premiums and an anticipated $287 billion in cost savings for Medicare
drugs over the 2022–2032 period. A $249.2 billion drop in direct spending and a $38.4 billion rise in
revenue would cause the deficit to shrink (Grover, 2022).
Grover, A. (2022, August 18). The Inflation Reduction Act will cut health care costs for some
patients. But we need to do more.

Good Afternoon,
Thanks for posting. By using a variety of techniques, health policy can lower healthcare costs without
compromising the provision of healthcare services. Policies that encourage healthy habits, such giving up
smoking or keeping a healthy weight, can lower the prevalence of chronic illnesses and the related
medical expenses (Hall & Doran, 2016). In order to avoid price gouging and guarantee affordability,
policies can also control the costs of medications and healthcare services. Policies have the power to
change the healthcare system from a value-based healthcare delivery model, which rewards quality care,
to a fee-for-service approach, which rewards quantity of care (“Reducing Health Care Spending: What
Tools Can States Leverage?,” 2021c). Health policies can encourage the use of technology to cut
expenses and increase efficiency. Telemedicine, for instance, can eliminate the need for in-person visits,
which can be more costly. In a similar vein, electronic health records can lower errors and enhance care
coordination, which saves money (

Most high-income nations are quite concerned about the rising expenses of healthcare. However,
attempts by politicians to cut expenditures have proven fruitless thus far and have harmed citizens' and
patients' best interests.
