Hello, parents and Families.
I hope everyone is doing great and keeping safe. I am excited to write to you to give you some
vital information. This letter introduces you to observation and assessment and how it works in our
program. I want to share this information. You can get familiarized with it and understand why we use it
in our program and how it helps us help and understand our children better. What do you think? Or
understand by observation and assessment? I will be explaining why and how it's being used. In our
program and how you can be, we are always included in the process. You are asking yourself, why is
observation and assessment needed? Observation and assessment are required. To establish what
children, know and can do and to identify them. Needs so we can prove to interact and match them.
Needs. I will be observing and assessing your child. Every week, I write my observations to compare. I
will be putting my observations into our teaching strategies program.
I can assign objectives/dimensions in this program to see how your child is growing. I will be
observing/assessing the PILES (Physical, Intellectual, Language and Literacy, Emotional and Social)
Domains. Your child will be monitored/assessed daily while doing everyday activities. For example, when
we play in centers, your child picks up a block and starts using it, like a cell phone or camera. The
observations/assessments will occur in the classroom or on the playground during our daily
activities/routines. Observations/assessments are the children doing things independently, not teacher
directed. The results of observations/assessments will be discussed with our parent-teacher. Conference
or when needed if I see any immediate concern. Observation/assessment will go hand in hand with
NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). Let me tell you a little about NAEYC.
NAEYC developed a code. To help guide the thinking of professionals in the field of Early Childhood
Education. The Code outlines ideals and principles for professionals working with children, families, and
colleagues. And the community. My observations/assessments will be aligned with the NAEYC Code.
When I do my observations/assessments, they will all align with PILES Domains and Minnesota
Early Learning Standards (MNELS). Minnesota Early Learning Standards reflect the knowledge and skills
that a child in developmental progression should know and be able to do at the end of an age-related
time frame. PILES gives me the domains I need to see if your child can do them, and MNELS provides us
with an age time frame for them to complete or just be able to do. I want your child to be developed
where they need to be. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope it was easy to understand
why and how I will be observing/assessing your child and how the information will get to you. I will work
to Have your child where they need to be by using NAEYC and MNELS. Feel free to contact me anytime.
Time if you have any questions or concerns. I am here for you and your child.
Thank You,
Ms. Angie
