Overview of Curriculum Evaluation
Curriculums have been evaluation, discussed, processed, reviewed, change, and revised
so many times, for various of reasons. Having appropriate curriculum is very hard, it's like
having one size fit all for thousands of people. In the district that I serve curriculum evaluation is
so vital. Having multiple intelligence to serve as well as multiple cultures to serve in the public-
school systems having the appropriate curriculum is vital success of each student. In this paper, it
will be full of what we have discussed throughout this which is the importance of curriculum
evaluation, standards and objectives, assessments for learning, assessments and assignments,
validity and reliability, differentiation of instruction, culturally responsive teaching, and
feedback. Of course, we will have my personal reflection at the end as well as some citations
throughout this paper.
Importance of Curriculum Evaluation
Tomlinson, C. A. (2014) states “Curriculum ought not be thought of as a document or
program teachers teach “as is” but rather as a starting point for helping learners make sense and
meaning of the world they inhabit”. It is very important that the curriculum which is taught
reflect the standards, validity, and differentiation. Without a curriculum it is hard to find a
beginning point and an ending point and learning in the learning outcomes for the students.
Curriculum is the map in following the standards of learning which helps support the
functionality and validity of education. Without the curriculum it is very difficult to know how
the instruction needs to be performed or a baseline and what requirements other than the
standards is necessary for not just the state but the school and testing. Having an appropriate

curriculum prepares the students for not just the classroom assignment but for future assessments
in learning that betters their outcome when taking state or national facilitated testing. The
importance of curriculum evaluation goes hand in hand with the standards and objectives, which
can be reviewed in the next passage.
Standards and Objectives
There are many standards that we must follow on the national and local level for learning.
Standards our requirement for teaching in any level of learning which goes hand in hand with
curriculum and objective. Where I currently reside and teach, they're called the North Carolina
standards of learning. Without these standards we don't know what to test or evaluate the
students on a state or national level. Some school funding is based off of testing which is really
sad, so following the national and state require standards and objectives is vital when teaching in
the classroom while using an appropriate curriculum. Objectives are described as the pre disclose
synopsis of future learning of the passage or assignment that is given. In many learning
environments the objectives are vital for the student as well as the teacher. It opens the doorway
for appropriate conversations about the task or the lesson.
For example, a pre introduction, pause
introduction of the standards and feedback which all relate to the objectives that were previously
disclosed in the beginning of the lesson. It gives the students a brief rundown of what you should
learn from the assignment which has been given. I personally like giving objectives as I can
statements. Having the I can statement read or reviewed gives ownership to the student as well as
a goal before a lesson.
The curriculum evaluation and the standards and objectives go ahead and
hand with assessments of learning.

Assessments for Learning
Previously, we discussed curriculum evaluation and it's important, standards and
objectives. Assessment our key part of knowing where the student understood the information
that was presented in the objectives and the standards. It is very important to have assessments,
which affirm the validity of the understanding of each assignment or lesson previously given.
Without the assessment you are doing what I call teaching blind, having a curriculum as a guide
and the standards to formulate learning but no understanding of the concepts if the learner cannot
pass the assessment. Assessment is very important, and you must have the learning before you
can take the assessment. That's what the standards and objectives help build that bridge over the
curriculum to give you the exact information that the student needs to learn based on the topic.
There is no way you can give a test on chickens and the students hasn't even learned about
chickens now they may have some previous knowledge but does that knowledge meet the criteria
or the standards that is necessary for the learner to pass the assessment. Is that information
correct that the learner previously learned. I feel it's best in order to give an assessment the
information is taught, reviewed, and regurgitated by each individual student. Next, we're going to
talk about assignments and assessments which go hand in hand with assessments of learning,
standard and objectives, and the importance of having curriculum evaluations.
Assignments and Assessments
I feel like the meat of learning is the assignment. Each assignment is geared from the
standards and objectives and the curriculum. It is just like Tomlinson, C. A. (2014) states in
chapter 5 learning is a triangle. This learning triangle is a key part of understanding and teaching
the appropriate information for the students. You cannot have one without the other, each part of

this triangle is vital for the students to have maximum potential and success. Each assignment
and learning invoke a pretest and posttest, which are known as formal and informal assessments.
After learning the information this is just one key area that confirms the validity of
understanding of the lesson. Next, we want to talk about validity and reliability.
Validity and Reliability
Darr, C. (2005) discussed the truths concerning validity. Validity can be used as an
assessment tool with the Internet which are interchangeable with assessments, assignments,
learning, standards and objectives, and curriculum evaluation. Making sure that you are correct
it's the answers and the information are valid and you're showing integrity while grading or
reading the assignment is so important. I think being truthful when given the assessment and
grading the assessment is vital and
we are relied upon as professionals to make sure each literal
facet of learning is done with validity and reliability. Knowing the correct level that the student is
on can only better help assess the student and help them to grow and develop the information
properly for maximum success and understanding and learning. Which goes into differentiating
assignments for instruction.
Differentiation of Instruction
This is one of my favorite topics to talk about, I guess it's because it's the one I use so
explain different things in my classroom every year. I received the cluster of students who have
individual education learning plans and students who are English language learners. After I get to
know the students, I begin to differentiate the instruction as well as the assignments based on the
needs of the students in the classroom but without the true test scores the assessments of learning
the standards and objectives, and curriculum. It is very important to have all the information
necessary in order to differentiate assignments based on the student’s learning goals. These were

the goals can be based and used from the individual education plan, or the English as a second
language learner plan. This documentation is very important in order to make sure that the
instructions are sufficient enough to meet the student’s needs. Speaking of meeting the students’
needs let's talk about culturally responsive teaching.
Culturally Responsive Teaching
Every school is very diverse, having many different cultures represented in them. Making
sure that the assignments for learning and assessments are given based on what each student
needs more students are coming into school not being predisposed to kindergarten or some even
first grade and having to make those adjustments can be difficult and make the fair parent feel
like it should not be but being cultural responsive means you can differentiate learning based off
the students cultural needs or finding ways that will make learning easy for culturally responsive
students. Let's talk about feedback having cultural responsiveness invokes feedback from each
instruction.
Feedback
It is very important that after all the lessons and assessments and assignments and many
ways that student and teachers become better if given appropriate feedback. Today's videos talk
about having the appropriate feedback that is positive versus the feedback that is negative. I think
it's very important that feedback is differentiated based on the age group of the students in the
classroom. For example, in first grade I would finish an aside I asked the students to rate the
validity of that assignment or their comprehension of their assignment by signaling a thumbs up
or thumbs down. Now this student might be able to write in their reflection journal and explain.
Having the appropriate feedback helps you grow as the instructor and the student grow and be
aware of the different learning styles.

Personal Reflections
I feel it's important to have curriculum evaluation. The state standards and objectives,
assessments for learning assignments, and assessments, validity and reliability differentiation of
instruction cultural response teaching and feedback in order to make or help the students become
more successful. I hope that the triangle of learning continues to grow and create a foundation
that is effective in each curriculum. In my classroom I do currently evaluate my curriculum and
do it with the best validity and effectiveness possible. As stated, before at curriculum evaluation
can improve the teaching experience and the students learning experience by using the feedback
of each student after every lesson it only takes a second, but you'll learn where you as the
instructor king grow and what level of student needs help or is progressing and learning.
