Chapter 12: Occupational Outlook Handbook Assignment The purpose of this assignment is to identify skills, interests, and possible occupations that fit with your personality and skill set. There are two parts to the assignment. In the first part you will be compiling information about two careers. In the second part you will compare and contrast the information you learned (although you may need to do additional research). How You Will Be Graded Part I: Research (30 points) Part II: Compare and Contrast Presentation (60 points) Mechanics: 10 points Part I: Research Research two careers via the Occupational Outlook Handbook ( http://www.bls.gov/ooh ). Complete the worksheet below for each occupation. They may be similar jobs or completely different but should be careers in which you are interested . Part II: Compare and Contrast Presentation Using the information from the worksheets and the OOH website create a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint. Directions Slide #1 Title, occupations, and your name Slides #2-6 Choose 5 topics from your research (ex. salary, education, skills, duties, etc.) that you feel are most important. Compare that topic from both jobs. You may need to refer to the OOH site for additional information. The slides should include a title and a side-by-side comparison of each topic for each career. For example, you may want to compare the current salary, projected salary, midrange salary, and salary from other areas of the country for career #1 and career #2. Include the information from the worksheets but DO NOT copy and paste what you have written for the worksheets. That is way too much information for a PowerPoint presentation. When creating slides remember that 'less is more' . Don't overload the slide with content that becomes too small to read. Add styles and images to make your presentation more visually appealing. 1
